On Sunday 1st May Our church held a question time for all the MP's running for our seat in Truro, Cornwall. All 5 parties were invited to attend and there was a good audience expected.
Come 3pm with a full house we learn the following.
Conservative candidate. Did'nt show up and did'nt provide a replacement. Obviously had something more important to do. I saw her later on the news with a big grin on her face walking next to Mr Howard who decided that Sunday was his day to fly into Cornwall. Obviously she was more concerned with herself than the people she hopes to represent.
Lib Dems. Also called away. The current imcumbant also had to appear on TV for the good of the party rather than meet his locals. His replacement was a pompous !!!!!! of a man who used to be the MEP. I don't think he did his candidate any favours at all.
Labour. The candidate was there, no smile and preached " more of the same" to come and for ever more.
UKIP. Brought us a little humour with his remarks, but made his party look as credible as the monster raving looney party.
Mebyon Kernow (independant Cornwall). A nice chap with lots of smile, but knows he will never win.
So who do I vote for? Beats me, I am more disolusioned than ever

We've got the same problem here, I've voted labour all my life except for my first ever election when I voted conservative to annoy my dad.
We're being chased by everybody as this is a very marginal consituency but if Labour get in again then my OH will lose his job as Labour plan to privatise the probation service within the next 18 months and will be handing it over to either Reliance or Securitas.
We're personally better off financially than we have ever been but I'd rather cope with a few less pounds than have to cope without a job at all
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

My poor old Dad would turn in his grave if he knew who i am voting for in this election - not that i think theres a good 'un between em but sometimes you just have to do whats good for you rather than what you were told was right as a child. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I know who i am voting for. But I made the choice personally and looked at what the mp would do for me personally. The only candidates that has bothered to come round was lib dem and conservative, and the conservatives have been round 3 times. Labour are nowhere to be seen, havent even received any junk mail from them which i couldnt believe. I think they dont bothe as its not a marginal seat, only conservative or lib dem would get in round here. But they should still put the leg work in, then people might bother to vote for them. The conservative bloke even gave me his home address as he lives at the bottom of my road.
I warned him, that might be a mistake as if they irritate me i will be straight down there

I would be tempted to vote for the person rather than the party but have not been impressed so far - one is pompous and sucks up to Tony Blair, 0ne is wet behind the ears and the other one a bit vague.

Hi
My twopence: a few weeks ago we were interviewed by an 'Observer' journalist, and here's the result: http://observer.guardian.co.uk/cash/story/0,6903,1456087,00.html
We've talked to Age Concern a lot about the election and its issues, and I've read every manifesto as it has come out, including BNP, UKIP, English Democrats and the Pensioners' Convention. I was against our involvement in the war and I do think we were conned and manipulated into it, but I don't think anything is served by constantly going on about it now - what we have to do now is to finish what we're doing there, get out with honour and then move on to all the other important issues that are getting neglected.
I don't feel that the 'grey issues' are the only ones of importance to me - my concern for the planet over-rides all else. http://observer.guardian.co.uk/cash/story/0,6903,1473923,00.html
The Green Party, although they may have no chance, are the ONLY ones I totally agree with! Most of the others, I agree with a small part but not everything. Conservative - I couldn't vote for them because they are pledged to repeal the Hunting with Dogs Act. BNP - no, because my husband is a third-generation immigrant. 'Grey issues' - they don't explain how it's all going to be paid for, especially in decades to come when there are proportionately fewer people in the younger age-groups earning and paying taxes. We could have a tremendous backlash, pogroms against grannies even!!! Long after I'm dead, it may happen, and I can't just think about the here and now.
So, of our 5 candidates in this safe Conservative seat, the Green candidate will get my vote. I have to vote with my conscience, and that's it.

Why do people get annoyed when various candidates do not leaflet them or come round to visit etc? This is a democracy (of sorts), which means everyone has the right to run for election or campaign on someone else's behalf. As a voter it is YOUR job to research a party whose politics most suit your ideology or moral values, and if necessary, it is also YOUR job to hand out leaflets, go door-stepping for YOUR chosen candidate.
Sorry to be harsh but do you think it is up to someone else to deliver leaflets? Perhaps your local Labour candidate has a very small team helping him/her. (...and I'm not a Labour voter btw). I suppose those that do help with campaigning must be less busy than you? or maybe they don't also have jobs to do?
If the BNP were the only party to deliver leaflets to your house would you vote for them?0 -
You should get a night shift job like mine. They all come round then, some several times.

Surfcat I dont vote for people just becuase they come round or drop off leaflets, but i know some people do. Just cos the labour candidate may have a small team, doesnt mean he shouldnt be bothered. He wants to do the job so he should be the leg work in and get on with leaflet dropping and the like.
They volunteer to do this job, no-one forces them, if you dont see them at election time, you havent got a cat in hells chance of seeing them any other time have you.
Just because we have the internet and the like, a lot of voters wont, some dont even have a tv, so leaflets are the right way to go so people can see what all the parties would do (or say they would do) for your area.0 -
Sorry but I don't buy your excuse. How many houses are in your constituency? Maybe the local party doens't have enough money to get leaflets and the like printed up? Perhaps you could send them a donation.... If you want to see your MP why not go to their open surgery in their constituency office (most MPs have these). Have you ever actually written to your MP to complain about something/ argue a point, or do you just sit their complaining on internet forums about how !!!!!! everything is and not actually doing anything about it?0
