Manc's - How much should i try and knock off the rent!?

The 'Green Quarter' is anything but green, whoever named it that was hopelessly optimisitc.
Looked at a few flats there myself - not so good. Tend to be small - high up - looking over very busy noisy streets. The worst thing about this area is the walk into the centre though. It was down dodgy back streets populated with certain 'ladies' and their customers, under bridges and along very busy roads.
It might get better in a few years but for now, well you'd have to pay me to live there.
Castlefield is nice though. And there are a lot of good deals to be had. Urban Splash have built some fantastic flats around there and they generally tend to have large balconies that you don't have to pay extra for.
Have fun searching!0 -
Green Quarter is not strictly cheetham hill although it is that side. Its basically directly opposite the MEN carpark on the corner there has the four lanes of traffic one side and the train tracks on the other....the apartments are ok inside but you get a better deal because of location me thinks.
If it was a personal choice I would choose castlefield or northern quarter to live. I know there are quite a few in castlefield around the 550-600 mark but whether you will get a discount on them I am not sure. I don't think there is a shortage of people looking to live city center as one of my friends recently looked.
Its quite well known that there is a shortage of people who want to rent in manchester central, and its discussed quite regulalry here, that there are a lot of voids and a glut of NB flats in central manchester that people cannot
let.... shame bobproperty isnt about he usually has some good links about manchester & surrounds:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I think negotiating a price/rent reduction is entirely dependent on the local market.
Around here, you've got no chance - in fact, you're lucky to actually get a property to rent as they are snapped up as soon as they become available. It's just taken me 8 weeks to even view one - and that's only because I know the LL who tipped me off re its availability.
I took it there and then at full asking rent as I didn't want to risk there not being another suitable property "around the corner".
I guess it just depends on the local market. If there are plenty of BTLs in that area, then I would try for a reduction. (BTLs don't exist around here, as such).Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac

I don't disagree with those facts lynzpower but thats giving renters the power I guess o maybe he can make a deal but I know only from about four months ago when I went checking around with my friend that half of the places we viewed were simply too expensive for very little and the actual desirable places i.e. urban splash etc had no shortage of viewings and lettings.
Remember facts and stats are going to take into account all the flats on offer within the city limits but manc has quite a packed small centre and the flats that are really reasonable walking distance in are not having too much trouble from when I looked around. I didn't think you could get lower than 500 mark within the deansgate, castlefield to piccadilly basin area but its worth a try I guess especially over the next few months when even more come on the market.
Maybe also its changed a bit in the last 6 months. Was just making the comment.0
