I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Watching my current experiment develop is a lot of fun. When he was newborn he was, of course, very sweet, but didn't do anything apart from process milk. Now he recognises people, smiles a lot at people he knows well, laughs, grabs things, explores things, he's changing all the time. And getting more interesting.

I remember when my first was a newborn discussing babies with a friend who'd also recently had her first, and agreeing that for the first few weeks they are really just baby mammals, and much like lots of other kinds of baby mammal apart from less furry. ;)

Tyre performance in the wet deteriorates rapidly below about 3mm tread - change yours when they get dangerous, not just when they are nearly illegal (1.6mm).
Oh, and wear your seatbelt. My kids are only alive because they were wearing theirs when somebody else was driving in wet weather with worn tyres.

Very close result as I expected. Glad I voted Labour... As much as I dislike the two Eds I wouldn't want UKIP in here. To be fair to Liz McInnes she does seem a bit more traditionally Labour, which even if I don't always agree with I respect a lot more than Miliband's lot.

Early start today so up and about. Read this and wondered if fir has played a part...

Apparently the wrong un, Kim Jong Un, has not been seen in public for over 30 days, leading commentators to question whether he has been overthrown.

Fir's potential role? Apparently he may have gout as a result of becoming addicted to cheese and not trust anyone enough to be treated. Whether or not he gained this addiction as a result of a chance encounter with a cheese evangelist on a secret visit to London is not stated.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Interesting that on the ground you were expecting a close result as the polls had suggested an easy labour win, I wonder if the extra swing from Tories to ukip was tactical or reflects more Tory weakness than expected?
    I think....

Youngest got a Distinction in his first college assignment.....think he was chuffed with himself, I know I certainly was!
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

    :T:T:T Well done him!

Have we decided who's opening NPT13? Is PN going to delete loads of posts from this thread anyway?

I think I remember reading somewhere about somebody who brought up an orphan baby gorilla or chimp or something at about the same time as they were bringing up their own (human) baby of the same age. I think the two infants made very similar progress intellectually until about age 2, and then the ape got stuck and the human went on learning.

I recently read a novel based around these experiments, very moving.

What I would say is the ape might have 'got stuck' at progressing like a human, but it might not have 'got stuck' at progessing by other measures. Animal behaviourists as a rule love to warn against anthropomorphisation but apply it often to their research. An apes pinnacle of success is always going to be being the best ape it can be. A human being the best ape it could be would not be that successful in life.

Its my belief that our 'selves', our species selves , are 'success'' , health and happiness, are met best by applying science to improve conditions while remembering what we are, physiologically and anatomically and considering what impact they might have psychologically. It used to be my belief that by this kind of balance we could best improve welfare of all animals in human control...pets, work, captivity. By extension I think it applies to humans, thoug I begin to wonder if there are stages of domesticity In people too....

E,g. I wonder if its partly why hamish and I will never agree on population density not just from a practicL pov but from a gut level. He's just more evolved than I am. ;)

Where is michaels? I would nominate him, or zag, or mas, or chewy, although I'd like to see chewy take the thread when he can be 'the daddy' - so the one after?
