Your insurance will go up £350 because of the non standard brake modifications. :)

I've been given an ultimatum to get rid of my mini by January at the latest and buy something more practical that we can fit things in. I am not pleased.

What are these magical "things"? Babies or food shopping?

Youngest's GCSE results today...gulp! It's weird, 5 years ago, we were told he would not be doing GCSEs as it would be too much for him and that was fine (well not fine but we understood) and our expectations were low. Now however, I am so blooming nervous and I will be gutted for him if he has not done well or on a comparable level to his siblings.

He will be gutted too, he knows he is bright and has his life plan mapped out...and failing his GCSEs does not come into it! So, trying to think positive thoughts with part of me chuffed he has come this far and the other part scared stiff of the fall out if the results are not as HE expected.

The day has not got off to a good start however, the super duper wired to the mains but with an internal back up battery smoke alarm which is supposed to last 10 years, appears to be failing after about 4 years....went off twice this morning in a short space of time but no smoke, no fire and absolutely no reason for it to do so. The last time the smoke alarms did this, it set off my fire OCD and I had only really started to relax a little.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

In 1990 I was at home in my little studio house, lounging on my Ikea sofa....

I read somewhere (possibly here?) that 30% of European babies were conceived on an ikea bed. It must be pretty tatty by now.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

This made me realise we don't have a smoke alarm here - something the LL always had to sort out! That's another thing for this week's shopping trip...

    Fingers crossed for the results!

Pretty much anything. Getting two suitcases and hand luggage (and two people) in it for a trip to the airport (or a drive to a holiday destination), for instance, is like untying the gordion knot. And when OH's relatives arrive at heathrow she wants to be able to go and pick them up which is currently impossible unless they post their luggage separately.

This is definitely more than 200. More like 10x. Almost double 1st quote. I think I start with finding out why quote was so different to guesstimate (it's definitely not that he rocked up and discovered the place is a mansion). Then mention other quote. And see where it goes. In meantime, call 1st bloke and see if he can match the features.

Thanks Doozer. I'm not out to screw anyone over (we all have to earn a living), but on the other hand I don't want to be screwed over. I have to earn my living!
Not sure I could pick up an Ebay door in my mini :(

Which I think needs new tyres, brakepads at least at it's next service (imminent). No mates to help me bypass the garage either :(

I have bought a new front door from magnet and it was not very much for a door blank that was fire resisting. Then half a day for a carpenter to fit it.... Plus painting of course. About £400 all in for a door that was very heavy and solid.

I think Nikkster's main requirements for a front door are: multi-locking/security .... then looks. So the price has to reflect the value of the perception of security.

But, there are other ways to get a door just as secure without buying one from the first two blokes encountered.

To get "a suitable price" always involves a lot more determined searching than anticipated..... with a final compromise on price when you know you've exhausted EVERY avenue (which is why my curtains ended up at £40 and not £20, taking four weeks to come to a decision).

    I've been Money Tipped!
Wonder if glazing a standard door separately might be a way to go?

We got our cheapy cheap cheap back door online.

Different requirements on looks though. Mainly....fill the whole cheaply and unobtrusively, but it has a glazed bit we are glazing ourselves.....or something like that.
