It's days like today that make me like the fact that I can drive to a supermarket with an underground car park and get in and out of the car without getting wet.
I've not been to one that didn't have an outdoor car park!

Pastures, I keep meaning to ask what the latest on the TV viewing is. Did you manage to get the aerial set up in a way that you can watch at least some channels all of the time?
Well, it's better, but still a little temperamental. But it's viewable again :) and at least now, when fiddling, I have some inner confidence I am doing the right things and not randomly moving it about.

It has been raining heavily and steadily for a few hours. Blowy at times then it settles again. When it settles the sound is bird song.

The occassional car makes a "whoosh" through the stream of water on the road. It is not a puddle as we are the bottom of a hill and the water is moving but an inch or two deep from the top of the camber to the verges.

It looks like a November day. OH is still asleep, DD is out dog walking and will call in at the yard. Everything outside is tidy so if it does get squally there is nothing else we can do, just sort it out when it is over. It feels cosy.

My nephew went to Cornwall, camping, with his partner and children yesterday. He has commented on FB that it was probably not the best day to swap a house for a tent.

    Overheard at the post office:

"This parcel is too heavy. You'll have to put more stamps on it."

"And this will make it lighter?"

If they did it'd be a fantastic product! Imagine that - can't lift furniture? Stick some stamps on it....

I love reading old newspapers online ... it can take an hour to get a long story out of it (for free) though as I can only search by/for a few words at a time, so have to repeat-query a specific date once I've got a headline that catches my eye.

I was looking for "people with one of our family surnames in one area" knowing, ultimately, they'll all end up related to me ... and I found one who dropped dead at a chicken show while judging it!

The other day I found my great-grandfather's older brother had been arrested for buying a soldier's undergarments while waiting for the ferry at the river .....

Very good choice for OH. He should also re-read Swallows and Amazons, for good measure? It's hard to choose a fave Arthur Ransome, but if really pushed, I might well go for We Didn't Mean to Go to Sea, which as well as being a great read, is also a fab title for a book. Pigeon Post and The Picts and the Martyrs are also pretty good.

I loved that series as a child, and still have the books. They were responsible for my doing dinghy sailing so have a lot of affection for them. Couldn't ever quite decide if I wanted to be as adventurous and shunning of authority as Nancy Blackett
What little housey jobs are NP putting off, knowing they have to be done before "something" happens .... but knowing you simply don't fancy it today?

My front bedroom needs reskimming in places before it can be decorated ... only been here 4 years so there's time yet :D

Another one for replacing the sealant round the bath and basin.

And must try to remember where the hoover and duster are, as parents arrive on Wednesday :o

Don't even get me started on the state of the garden

I'd find it hard to look past the Land Cruiser of the cars on your list.

I wouldn't want to take a Defender anywhere which didn't have a substantial dealrr network and roadside recovery group. You'll struggle to break a Land Cruiser.

It's something I've noticed in my time in places like Aus and the Middle East: anywhere where it's absolutely essential that your car starts first time every time, people buy a Toyota.

Did you ever see the Top Gear programme with the Toyota Hilux truck? They tried to destroy it in so many ways, failing dismally.

The other day I found ...

Now that's not a family history story you expect to find every day :T :rotfl:

    Here's my list...

Main bedroom needs redecorating/carpeting and a bit of the skirting board replaced.

Bathroom needs re sealing too, but I want a new bath, so will do that first.

Spare spare bedroom needs a door on it.

Pink carpet in spare bedroom needs to go, probably so do the wall colour.

    Hall and stairs need re-plastering.

    New carpet for living room.

I won't mention what's next with the ongoing saga that is my porch.

The kitchen is ok and serviceable. Not high on the list at the moment.

Downstairs toilet is nice though. Not as nice as silver's so no photos to come.

Next up will probably be the replacement of the extractor fans in the downstairs toilet and bathroom as they are getting a bit old and rattly.

Oh, and I'm getting a gardener having given up on the wilderness.

    I've been Money Tipped!
The idea of my list is even to daunting!

We were going to paint the upstairs corridor today but we, er, 'over slept' considerably and seems crazy to start at what best start time would be midday.

We're going to take dogs for a run in this weather lull, and then maybe have a nap.

I've seen it a few times. It was shown quite a bit whilst I was having treatment. Very funny, I'm a Top Gear fan to the extent that The Boy got me a birthday card with a picture of a car on it with TOP GEAR written in BIG BLACK CAPITALS. He gave it to me just before my surgery.

It confirmed something I'd already noticed: if your car failing to start is potentially an existential problem then you drive a Toyota, not a Beemer, Lannie or a Merc.
