Nice People 12: Nice in Nice

Interestingly, people suffering from depression seem to be much better able to judge risks accurately than those who do not suffer from depression. Unfortunately I can't find a link to the study at the moment.
That programme I mentioned said pretty much the same thing. So depressed people are actually just realists.... Which is depressing.Guess where we were meant to be going on holiday this Summer?
After overspending on California last year and with the potential of a trip to Australia in Autumn (which now looks unlikely), we decided to save money this Summer. Cheap holiday - with only the taxes on Avios flights to pay for.
I don't think a nice, relaxed city break in Gaza was ever the best idea, Silver....Are Israeli rockets/missiles accurate enough to pinpoint a hospital? I know that UK missiles can be very precise, but AFAIK, Israel are using Israeli or American weaponry, which I know nothing about.
I think they can be very accurate indeed. One thing they sometimes do with a Hamas leader's home is a so-called "knock on the roof" when they send a tiny missile without explosives to land on the house first, and then a real one a few minutes later. So if a little missile lands, the wise person shifts himself, sharpish.I've always had the idea that Hamas have a more scattergun approach.
Hamas' missiles are so rubbish that AIUI they don't even always hit the right country. They aren't targeted in any real sense, just fired off, a bit like V 1s or V 2s in the Second World War....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
Let's be frank. It's an unholy mess in the holy land. Kafka could not have dreamt it up.
On the other hand, the person who dreamed up the numbering system for the Immigration Rules could have conjured it up. The ludicrously-named paragraph 245 AAA of the current Immigration Rules begins, incomprehensibly, in 245AAA(a)
For the purposes of references in this Part to requirements for indefinite leave to remain, except for those in paragraphs 245BF, 245DF and 245EF:
(a) "continuous period of 5 years lawfully in the UK" means, subject to paragraphs 245CD, 245GF and 245HF .......vivatifosi wrote: »I can hardly contain my excitement.

Does it come with free naked bloke wielding it, or is that extra? It was very civilised, the tide was out but west wittering beach dips so you get a lagoon to swim in. I had my mat to myself and did not have to share it with a soggy sandy dog. No one pawed me and caused scratches. I drank iced coffee and ate a picnic of last nights BBQ leftovers without anyone drooling. All in all a success.
That sound utterly wonderful - hope you felt relaxed and happy afterwards. Is DH back yet?My parents had 5 children.
They have ended up with 18 grandchildren. I have 2 children, brother 1 has 14 (plus one who died of cot death), brother 2 has 2, brothers 4 and 5 have no children.
Not the most even distribution!
14? Really? Not a mis-type of 4?
That's pretty extreme. Don't fancy it much myself.PasturesNew wrote: »My parents had 3 children. 0 grandchildren.

It was lovely..we need a NP day at the seaside with NP children.
OH got in about half an hour ago. His flight was delayed by a few hours as the plane back had a passenger problem at Gatwick. The pilot gave the short version of events, being that a parent lost their children prior to boarding, causing several hours of search and delay.
The First Officer said they hoped to make up a bit of time as they "would fly the 'plane, like they had stolen it". Passengers clapped:)
I now own a box of Amaretti.:)0 -
Heard an interesting piece of behavioural economics: why David Lee Roth insisted on having no brown M&Ms backstage.
The band had a very complex, heavy and potentially dangerous stage set which needed to be constructed correctly or it could damage the set or even kill someone. Of course if you ask someone if they put the set up correctly they say, "Yes, of course", regardless.
So what to do? You put a dumb clause in the contract asking for a bowl of M&Ms backstage with the brown ones removed. Any brown M&Ms mean that you can cancel on the spot. If you see a brown M&M in the bowl what you are really seeing is a contract that hasn't been read properly. You then do a full check of every part of the set to see what else they missed. The set apparently weighed "the same as a 747", according to DLR.
It was once set up on a rubberised basketball court with predictable results (the court was trashed). There were brown M&Ms in the bowl.0 -

Dunno. They never said out loud if it did. Only 1/3 married (and still is 40 years later).0 -

No, definitely not a mis-type. Yes, pretty extreme. Even my mother says that when you are told your son/daughter is going to have a baby, you are delighted. Same for number 2 and 3, then you get slightly less enthusiastic (I paraphrase) with each subsequent announcement, to the point of suggesting he ties a knot in it or something..
At some point the eldest children could be producing at the same time as their parents. So kids get aunts and uncles younger than they are.NDG wrote:DId that bother them, do you know?
My 75 year old aunt used to say that she never wanted grandchildren (that I never believed given that she had had 3 kids herself, I mean if you don't like children why have 3?) By the time she was a grandmother of 3 at 80, she thought it was quite fun being a grandmother.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. NDG wrote:But even if people are firing rockets absolutely from a hospital, you might just have to live with it, if you are Israel. Rather than bomb it.
That is the crux of the problem.
You can't fire at a hospital.
You can't live with rockets being fired at you indefinitely.
