Hi there, having read your post if you could earn more money this would solve a lot of the problem. Of course this is easier said than done but a friend of mine who was in huge debt went into direct selling on top of her 9-5 job and although I wasn't sure if she'd make much money out of it she did and managed to clear her debt. There is a whole range of companies out there to choose from.

Thanks for the advice, however I will not be able to make 20k as well as live somewhat functionally. I work 3 days and I still have a 12 yr old and 15 yr old... the 15 yr old isnt such a problem, but the 12 yr old is that awkward age where she is too old for childcare and too young to be left alone for too long, I already do 8 hour shifts which are sometimes saturdays or sundays or both.

Morning all, woke up this morning with a sinking feeling... I'm sure I'm probably not the only one to feel like this once the ball starts rolling.
I think its the worry of cancelling the DD's and the enormity of everything... Plans for today are to drive to nearest co-op bank which is in the same town as work (about 25 miles away) and open this bank account. I have £300 in the kitty towards a vehicle, not much but hoping I can add a little here and there as the days go on.
Thankfully I am at work at the hospital until 8pm today so my mind will not wander away with me so much.
Thank you all for your advice so far, its nice to have the help of the debtline people, but after you put the phone down from them, you really feel alone, so comforting to know other people are around the spur you on with advice.:o

    Hi,
Agree with egres' this is the first steps to getting under control, just make token or no payments to non priority debts, if they do get to talk to you don't let them harvest your new number put 141 in front of their number if you ever call them, also remember if they come knocking at your door they have NO rights to seize anything or enter your property, if they refuse to leave call the police.

But in reality it takes months to get to that stage, the token payments and ignoring them can be strung out for a year at least.

    Good Luck!!

Evening all, just a quickie before bed... Hard day at the hospital today so no time for worrying. I left early this morning and drove to the nearest co-op bank, all excited I took payroll and DD info thinking I could open the account in branch.... WRONG, however, I sat in the car and filled everything in, then found a library to photocopy id. All sent off and hoping it comes back soon.:T

Good morning all helpers, I am still on a mission, however am feeling a little low in spirits... Forgive me if I have made an error, but I went into my direct banking a few days back and cancelled all un-secure direct debits, including the dreaded mobiles.... we have since started on the Giff Gaff ones ( daughter took it surprisingly well ) I may add!
I have checked my bank today online and it shows that each one of the DD's that I cancelled has now gone through and looks to be paid!!!!... How has this happened and what can I do to stop any more payments going through plz???
On another note, I have filled in my " Charis grant" application for insolvency fees aid and submitted it this morning... (tick that one off the list) I am still awaiting my details by post of the cash-minder account, rang them and they still haven't received it... grrr..
A big question I have is.... I am currently filling in the BR form 6.27 and really struggling to know what I should delete from the online form. I'm so used to peasantry language that this high court posh malarky is all jargon to me :-) I don't suppose anyone could point me in the right direction of a sample letter for BR according to normal BR when you are not in business ( just personal). I did see one here a few moons ago but it is now lost in the cognitions of my memory as to where I could find it. Many thanks and just a random:p

It's possible the companies had made a call for the direct debits before you cancelled them, call your bank to have them refunded :)

The following should help you with filling in the forms and gives examples https://nedcab.cabmoney.org.uk/bankruptcy.asp

Endowments can be cashed in to pay debts off, long gone are the days when they would take your first born to cover your debts!

As for the DD's phone your bank, tell them you cancelled them and to recall the money, if you get the "we can't do that" line explain gently and quietly that they can and will....

Good luck and pop back for any advice, the BR forms start to make sense as you wade through, take them a small chunk at a time and fill out one copy in rough, when you are happy transfer it to a "good one".

If you do make a mistake in the crossings out bits the clerk at the court checks this and in my case replaced the offending page in front of me for a copy she had, in my case the Court staff and OR were really nice, my only regret was not doing it earlier.

Don't worry about the un-secured debtors chasing you, plenty of fun strategies for dealing with those!

Well I have a combined life protection and critical illness, would it make a difference if I filled out "trust forms" to make sure that any money in event of illness or loss of life went to my children.... I guess what I am saying is.... Is it worth me paying for this if the OR can cash it in... sorry am a little foggy in this dept.
As an added note, I have only had this policy a year.
