Yes you need a prescription from your vet. I have two cats and a dog and use stronghold on them all. It protects from worms, ear mites, fleas and ticks. I can buy it online at approx 3.30 per month per animal. The prescription costs me £7 for 6 months.
We've have never had a flea since using this.
Bephar household flea spray or indoorex household flea spray are both good for after you have washed and hoovered everywhere, open the windows, spray the edges of the room and close the door for a couple of hours.
A flea collar in your vacuum will sort out any that end up In there or any eggs that hatch in there.0 -
I don't think you need a prescription for Advantage from Animed, although they do ask you to Register a pet. That means you need to check the pet's age and weight so that Animed can be sure you are buying the right product.
Mind you, I had heard they..and lots of other online stores...were out of stock due to heavy demand.0 -
My neighbour recommended one of these last year: http://www.vetuk.co.uk/pet-meds-prescription-only-seresto-flea-and-tick-collars-c-21_1059
and, despite being sceptical, I gave it a go. SERIOUSLY impressed; not one flea problem since.
This concerns my dog (a Parson Jack Russell), though. I don't know how effective they are for cats.
Good luck! x0 -

All the cat ones from animed want a prescriptoin now. I thought i woudl try another brand. Tried adding to basket putting in your pet bit then it wants to know how you are showing them your prescrition post, email, fax etc. everywhere seems out of stock.
Only place i can see some is on ebay via portugul! not sure if i trust that.0 -
Flea treatments 'off the shelf' are pretty useless. It's always best to get the treatment from a vet. I use Stronghold on my cat and in the two years she has been with me there has never been an issue with fleas. Stronghold also kills ticks and certain intestinal worms plus heart worms too. A fantastic product!:j0

Get a prescription from your vet and send it off to them. They have to do it cheaply and to make it worth your while get a few packs.
My vet charges £7.00 per prescription.0
