Yant is right. Look on your pay rise as a great way to save to buy a car you have always wanted. Put the money aside and buy when your savings meet the depreciating forecourt price of the Mini. It'll be a lot closer than 60 months!

Not too bright are you Jay, realise your low capabilities then you'll never be disappointed.
  • I think im deserving a BMW M3 on finance perhaps I should trade in my £500 diesel car. I think I deserve it for all my hard work. After all a M3 will make my life more complete, id be happier as I have a expensive possession and im sure all the girls will change there mind about me and want to be with me.
What a pathetic approach. If the guy wants to buy a new car then he may do so. As stated earlier this site is not based upon not spending money. It is more based upon making a judgement of where/how to spend (or indeed save) your money in the best manner possible.

We all know cars depreciate in value (unless we're being pedantic and you'd like to mention some classic cars) - so we can gather that as a fact. A fact that is apparent throughout the sarcastic tone of all your posts in this thread.

Perhaps the guy does deserve a car for his hard work? Maybe he deserves to treat himself to something he will cherish and value. Just because you don't, doesn't make it wrong.

We can all spend our money as and how we please. I’m sure you get your enjoyment from something (other than dampening the spirits of others excited about buy a material possession that actually costs money)….or at least I hope you do as to me it just sounds like someone is suffering from a little bit of the green eyed monster syndrome.

Keith was on the money when providing advice about the physical car. I’d look into the residuals of the model and think about where it will depreciate most. Will there be a new model released soon etc. If so, perhaps drop back a couple of years and buy a car that has already took the depreciation hard hit. If you’re keeping it for a few years then it should last and you will certainly get the enjoyment out of it. Plus it will be cheaper to buy now :D

We can spend our money how we please, indeed we can, but do not lose sight of two main issues here :

    1. He doesn't actually have the money and

    2. A lender known for supporting the less credit worthy punter won't support him in his quest.

I am sorry, but you are not helping the lad in encouraging him in his venture to buy a car he cannot afford. These boards are full of people who have done exactly that and are now at a crisis point.

He has asked for advice and telling him not to do it (based on the information we have been given) is far more valid than encouragement to buy.

It may not make easy reading but the crux of what was said is absolutely true.

Thanks Kez, of course he doesn't have the money, hence why asking for a loan. The logistics of the truth will out: if nobody will give him the money, then it will be apparent that it is not possible - unless of course we're looking down the route of less reputable establishments. This will be light enough for the OP to realise that it may not be fiscally possible at the moment.

No need to be sorry, though please state where I actually encourage the OP to go and buy a car he cannot afford. With regards to anyone buying a car I simply said that the method I would adopt first would be as Keith suggested.

I would agree. Returning to the facts presented, the money he wants to loan is more than within a comfortable returning budget/money that is available, and I think the general advice stemming through this 3 page thread is that the car he desires is potentially out of financial reach at the moment.
It may not make easy reading but the crux of what was said is absolutely true.

I think you're missing the direction of my post Kez. There has been plenty of sound advice presented. At the same point there is unnecessary commentary thrown in with a derogatory attitude: Perhaps if I was to buy that M3 I will feel more complete and im sure all the girls will change there mind about me and want to be with me.

Such radical comments are unnecessary. At what point did anyone mention an M3, and the fact that the OP will become more desirable to the opposite (or same) sex purely by owning a car. The sounding of an over dramatic childish attitude.

...unless of course it’s true.

  • Im being silly as i like being silly. Pinch of salt and all.

This sub-prime loan company "black horse" are refusing to give him credit for a reason. All banks are tightening their belts because theres a sub-prime crisis, people borrow more then they can afford to pay back and the banks have been letting them using creative credit methods so that they can get their sales bonus'. Guess what all those salesman and big city bonus' will be sacked off as we enter a credit overload induced recession.

They offered him 3K so if he has any sense hell save up the rest and then buy the car rather then resorting to the sell your life provident-esc super subprime lenders such as yes.

BTW this threads as old as the dodo so hes prob gone and done what hes gone and done. Some people learn the hard way and then again some people... never learn. Salt of the earth as they are slave labour for all their money pyramid superiors like me, they can hail me and be my slave.
