Inaccurate address on electoral roll

I seem to have a problem regarding the address on the electoral roll. I live in a house which has been divided into 3 flats and I had problems last year with the local council because the council tax dept listed my address variously by Flat 1, Ground Floor Flat and also just the number of the house. This was confusing and I asked the electoral roll dept to clarify the situation.
They eventually (after saying they had sorted it when they hadn't) wrote to me saying that my address was Flat Ground Floor followed by the rest of the address. The problem is that credit reference agencies don't seem to recognise my address. - Whenever I fill in forms online where they use software that looks up the address from the postcode it doesn't recognise my address and I suppose it appears as if I am not on the electoral roll.
I contacted the electoral roll dept at the council and was told that it wasn't their problem. I would be grateful if anyone can advise me on how to sort this out. I am starting to feel like a non person.

Check your postcode on http://www.royalmail.com/
If your property is listed as "Flat 1", then this is the correct address and you insisting on "Ground floor" was wrong.
You can always add "Ground floor" (in brackets) in addition to "Flat 1" in your private correspondence, to make sure visitors arrive at the correct door.0 -
I did not insist on anything. I contacted the electoral roll dept because it had become apparent that the council was using different addresses. I simply wanted to get it sorted out. I don't care what the address is, provided it is consistent and I show up on the electoral roll.
It isn't about visitors having problems finding me or correspondence going astray. When I try to access a credit report the address which I am listed under on the electoral roll does not show up. It is not recognised by the software which searches on my postcode. I did not have this problem prior to the council "sorting out" the fact that they were using 3 different addresses for me. They have assigned me an address on the electoral roll which is not recognised by anyone other than themselves. When I pointed this out they said "nothing to do with us".0 -
What does the post code finder come up with?
That is the address you (and the council) will have to use.0 -
Agreed, CRA's use the post office address, if you're not providing this they'll be issues.0

Hi Bengal Stripe thanks for taking the trouble to try and help. I tried the link you gave for the royal mail and it comes up with Ground Floor Flat. The council say it is Flat, Ground Floor which doesn't even sound right.
Are you saying that if I point out to them that this is my address according to the Post office, that they should change it ? That would be great! I'll try that next week. Thanks for the advice0
