My method means that staff get the correct amount of leave they are entitled to. They most certainly do not lose out, rather they get the same as everyone else. I don't want to see anyone diddled, but neither should anyone be gaining an advantage.

I've already had advice from ACAS but will get confirmation from a solicitor or HR professional.

    Over and out.

Bank Holiday allowance is supposed to be for booking Bank Holidays only.

THis is another error in your thought processes,

If they were never scheduled to work a BH they would lose this holiday.

That would be illegal it needs to be able to be used on any day they would be scheduled to work.

Don't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked

One day would equal 1/5 of their contracted weekly hours, in line with how they are paid. Whether one day or one week is booked off, the total amount of leave taken then adds up to the five weeks all staff get. Their annual allocation is 5 x weekly contracted hours and this is what they're paid for. Their 8-day Bank Holiday allowance is also calculated according to contracted hours.

What would happen under this system is that all your staff would book their time off on the days they are scheduled to work more than their average hours. They would be out of the office for 7.5 hours (or whatever it is), paid for the 7.5 hours as it is factored into their annual pay, but only have an average day of 4.5 hours deducted from their allowance. Is this what you want?
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

it is quite unusual for a company to have what looks like a correct holiday policy for part timers and have someone try to mess it up.

usually the other way round trying to fix a holiday allowance mess.

hopefully the company has people in place to stop this nonsense and realize the op may not be supervisor material without further training.

another example of how silly the idea .
say the shift pattern was 50% 5days every 14 week on week off

op new rules average 2.5 days of holiday to take a week off...
