Yep, both those are right. Run an online translator down their German-language website.

So I give notice before my contract start date and they can claim 100% of the next 12 months fee? Surely three months notice is pro ratable (if there's a word) for the 3 months? Is it legal what they practice?

Raised a query via service@ADAC.de as prompted to when I rang last month. I asked for sympathy for not understanding the German Ts and Cs i.e the 3 month renewal notice clause - as I dont undertand German.

    I got a response today - in German :T

(Used google translate and they have registered my cancellation date as 31 July - 2015! and ignored my plea - tempted to take this further)

I wouldn't hold your breath, although a goodwill gesture _might_ happen.

You're buying a service from a German company, so it's covered by German law and having Ts & Cs in German is not exactly unexpected. It's up to you to understand what you're buying, and what the Ts & Cs are. The Ts & Cs are on their website, and automated translation is good enough to get the meaning across.

English translations are provided for your convenience only. Please understand that contract documents, form, terms & conditions and any other notices and information will generally be provided in German.

Thanks for the advice. I maybe missing something here having followed your link as I can't see any english Ts and Cs only: 'Using the links below to acquire ADAC membership requires that your place of residence is in Germany'

The link is to the quote. The quote saying that the language of contract is German.

It doesn't matter whether you're in Germany or not, you're buying a service from a German company under German law. The reason you might want to do that, of course, is because they offer a service that no UK company does at a comparable price...

You use the 'links below' if you live in Germany.

    Otherwise you phone them.

The problem is the German application form cannot handle UK format postcodes.
