o2 retentions - NO discounts offered?

I can hardly believe what I'm hearing. Can someone please confirm whether this is true or whether i'm being lied to:

I've been a loyal o2 customer for years. I've upgraded the past 2 years and been given a better deal and a new phone. I do the same this year and I get told that if I want to stay on my existing tarriff (500mins/500texts) I have to pay an extra £15/month as they no longer offer any discounts.

So I've ended up on a sim only, no new phone, and a worse tarriff while paying the same money. Absolutely awful.

What should I do? I want my retention offer and a new phone!

If you aren't happy change provider....
If you've accepted the contract not sure if you can do anything....
  • Its not a contract, its only month by month. I have 14 days when I can cancel this new deal.

I want to stay with o2 for the reception - nice to know that my custom for the past few years means nothing to them!

Edit: I'm giving it another shot - found a specific deal on 3 that I can quote... fingers crossed!

Edit 2: Aha. Apparently there's a mysterious 'budget' that appears on your account a few days before your contract is up, presumably allowing the retentions guys to make you some kind of deal. Phone call 2 has yielded a small glimmer of hope - I will phone back closer to contract end date and see if they are more desperate for my custom.

It's not that you don't mean anything to them, it's that you don't spend enough money to justify giving such an upgrade.
Rubbish I know but it's policy, if you didn't go over those minutes and texts every month they've made £180 for you, not even enough to give you a brand new phone, let alone cheaper tariff.

They can offer you any retentions deals a month before your contract ends, my contract ended 8th of June and I upgraded around 10th of may. You don't have to wait until a few days before your contract ends. O2 themselves will tell you you can upgrade from am month before.

Have a look around for a deal that suits your needs and had the phone you'd like, then call them back and say you're leaving them because you've found a better deal, one that will get you a phone plus the minutes/txts you want so can you have your pac number please.

They should offer you a deal, if not, your pac number will take a few days and you don't have to use it, so you don't actually have to move if you don't want too.

Or get a cashback deal, there's a lot of o2 deals around but you don't have to deal with o2 themselves.

I am on a £30 tariff and due to roaming my bills are and average of £70pm... called to renew today and was offered £100 credit if i decide to keep my phone and go for a 18 month contract...

I didn't think it was a good deal so have requested my PAC... unsure where to go... found a great deal on a 12 month cashback deal with but nobody seem to be able to port o2 numbers onto Vodafone... any suggestions?
  • Cheers Rev. Apparently I'm not yet in my 11th month (I will be on the 14th, calling back then) - I thought I was, but hey. I was a bit vague in my request the first time I called, but I called back with a specific deal I've found on 3 and they took me a lot more seriously.

The cashback deals really worry me - cos if the company claim they've never got your cheque or refuse to pay out for another reason, you're stuck with a really expensive contract. I'm gutted I missed out on this offer: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=496199&highlight=carphone+warehouse+quidco

CPW still have an £80 autocashback, with £60 quidco thats a great deal, but if quidco doesnt track :S

Anyone can port a number from o2 to vodafone, it's standard procedure. You may have to do it once you have signed up for vodafone rather than giving it at point of sale though.

Suppose you can port but not when you get a cashback contract?
the mobile outlet has this on their site :(

Porting to 3, Orange, and T-Mobile

To port to 3, T-Mobile or Orange you need to order your phone first. Once you have received your new phone simply dial 3 customer services from your handset (free call) who will take your porting details.

    Porting to Vodafone and O2

At present we do not port numbers to Vodafone or O2.

That is really weird! I've worked for three of the five mobile companies and theres no way they can bar you from porting. Only thing I can think of is that on a cashback claim the mobile number would probably conflict with yours and the one before porting.
