I've been with Utility Warehouse for nearly 2 years now. I have 5 services with them. Things have gone well and I've been happy with what I have. however, I recently saw the EE broadband deal and worked out that I would be saving £130 a year by changing - so I took the deal.
Both companies have advised my of the switchover date, so things appear to be running smoothly.............
The only thing is that today I received a letter from UWDC stating "We would like to remind you that our Broadband service is subject to an administration charge of £8.33 plus VAT to end the service." WHAT IS THAT???!!!! They are charging me to leave, and I am NOT in a minimum contract. I was always supposed to be FREE to leave when I feel.
How can they justify this? And more importantly - are they allowed to do this?

They have a fee for covering the admin involved with cancelling your services with them, this might be of interest http://www.which.co.uk/news/2010/04/utility-warehouse-ditches-unfair-cancellation-fees-212673/ (it's pretty old, but it confirms you can leave whenever you want but theres an admin fee involved).
They are also allowed todo it, even if it sucks. A lot of companies charge exit fees, it to try put you off leaving.0 -
It is mentioned in the UW T&C .0
