A&L Mess up!!! help needed!!!!!

hey folks i'll try to keep it short.
so i opened the A&L premier direct acc. some months back. never did anything with it. last month i got a ( use it or lose it letter) so i followed the instructions, gave them my bank acc to transfer. gave my new employers the new acc. details to pay my wages into. at the start of this month i got a letter from A&L confirming all the dd that would be transferred and told if all is correct to do nothing and wait for it to happen. i got another letter some days later informing me my acc. with A&L is being closed and to make arrangements for this? crazy!
so when i phoned they said it was automatically generated letter but the acc. was now closed, even though i had followed thier instruction to keep the acc. open.
the advised all i could do was open a new acc. and start again. which i've done.
the dd's will be ok as there are funds in my old acc. to pay them as i imagine they will stay at the old acc. BoS.
but my wages are due to be paid into the closed acc. on tuesday, the accounts dept. of my work says it's too late to do anything about it they will have to wait for the money to be bounced back from A&L which means i may not receive any pay for another 2/3 weeks!!
A&l did mention that they should be able to set up some temp overdraft for the amount of my wages until it's all sorted but they can't confirm that until tomorrow when the new acc the asked me to open is "on the system".
can anyone offer some advice, i am absolutely furios about this!! i have followed their instructions to keep the account open and now i've got all this grief to sort out through no fault of my own, i may not even get my wages for another few weeks!! makes me mad as the claim it's a hassle free process!!
ye well not for me!!
thanks.

This is the exact same thing that happened to me - saying it's an 'automated system' is a cop out and shouts poor, poor, poor customer care. They have refused to pay any charges that we've received as a result of the account being closed as 'they followed procedure'. Well pardon me for being a lowly human without the back room staff to handle my paper work but the majority of us have a life too - avoid Alliance and Leicester if you want a stress-free bank account!0

I have banked with A&L since january, and they have managed to !!!! my account up several times. I am now in the process of changing to another bank. There customer service is very poor. They set up a dd on my account which wasn't even in my name then blatantly called me liar when I TOLD them I had never had dealings with the company. Got money reimbursed but to explanation or apology. Also transferred money from isa to my current account money never went to current account and was sitting in a holding account took me 7 phonecalls and three visits to the branch to finally get this sorted. I was supposed to get all charges reimbursed due to their error and still haven't when I phone them all I get is it will be done in a couple of days. Now over 2 weeks.
Worst bank I have ever banked with. Now sending them martin's letter for reclaiming bank charges. and thinking about reporting them to om.
Also just finished calculating bank charges from abbey totalling £1200, heard they are not good on that score either. But here goes!!!! keep ya all updated.
Does anyone that has reclaimed there bank charges, tell me how long it usually takes. I am hoping to pay my debt of with the money.?0 -
Why didn't you do anything for months? The time scale probabaly lapses
I've never understood why people apply, have a credit score done and then never fund the account or activate it0 -
thanks for the replies , seems A&L aren't too good at solving issues they create.
as for not using it, it was my intention but other things, ie changing from self employed to employed, got in the way before i got round to changing. there letter informing me to change or lose the acc. did it. I followed their instructions on switching to continue having the acc. with them and they decided to close it, leaving me and my wages in limbo.
i applied for it to use it, i'm now trying to use it following there instructions and have now had to have another credit score done for the new acc. through their fault. so what exactly is your point regsaver.0 -
my point is you probabaly should have done it sooner0

I opened an account with A & L as I have financial troubles and needed an account that had no ties with other financial institutions. A few months after I opened it I tried to use my Electron card to withdraw cash and it wouldnt work. I called them and they said it was because we were closing our account ( Not !). It appears that when I called a few days earlier to cancel a DD they had kept my details on screen and when the next person called to close an account they started to close ours instead. It took 5 days and several call to sort and all I got was £25.00 compensation and a standard letter.
They have since made quite a few mistakes but I am in a quandary as to where else to go to a completely independent bank. Any ideas??0
