Eternity Ring advice

Hi All
I'm after some advice from any females out there, but it is a bit of along shot.
I'm in the process of choosing an eternity ring for my wife, but struggling on the specifics.
She has a 3mm platinum wedding band, with a couple of cutout diamonds, and a solitaire engagement ring (not sure on the width).
Now she doesn't wear any jewellery, apart from her rings, and when I suggested looking at eternity rings she got phased by the cost of them (she feels uncomfortable with the cost - but would like one!!).
So, i am trying to choose myself what sort to go for, currently on a channel set, half style, at 2.5mm.
I'd welcome any thoughts! One thing I can't gauge is whether to go 2mm or 2.5mm width - and it influences the cost quite a bit!!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
Steve

Steve, how thoughtful.
However, I think really you need to find a way to get her on board with the cost and let her choose one for herself.
Mr Bugs bought me an eternity ring, but when we were choosing one, his idea of what I liked was different to mine. Not that I wouldn't have been grateful whatever he chose, but if you are spending serious dough, you want it to be just right.
Good luck!0 -
How big are her hands?
I have small hands, size k, solitaire diamond, 3mm wedding ring, 2mm eternity ring, anything wider than 2mm would be too much on my finger. In fact I wear my eternity ring on the other hand because it's more comfortable.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I've just been given my eternity and LOVE it! My diamond engagement ring is a quite large stone so hubby opted for a platinum band, the same as my wedding ring (it's really quite thin 2mm) and there's no diamonds on, he has engraved around the outside so you can see that it is different to the wedding band - Eternal (adj) {e-ter-nal} ever lasting; forever; endless; unchanged by time.
Very different, but as I don't wear a lot of jewellary i wear my eternity ring first, then engagement in the middle and the wedding band and it just looks like on large banded ring - if that makes sence.
My ring size is J.5 to K so quite small hands and it works well.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....0 -
If she feels uncomfortable by the cost, could you get her a prepaid voucher for her - the voucher will already have been paid for so she won't have to worry about the cost.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

Not female but went through a lot of talks about this when my then fianc!e
She has small hands - in all dimensions - and so was very conscious of how the three rings stacked would look -v- the length of her fingers.
Her E & W rings, mainly by coincidence than real design, are all 2.5mm wide but crucially to her they also have the same depth of ring. When looking at eternity rings she didnt like the fact that may of them were thicker than her existing rings and so sat proud of them under her finger/ at the sides. The top you cant tell as the engagement ring has its stones.
She very much liked symmetry and so has earmarked the one ring she found that was also 2.5mm wide, had the same depth and was round brilliant cut diamonds (her engagement ring is a emerald cut and the wedding band plain). It happens to be a slightly odd setting, its claws rather than channel but the claws are more pronounced than normal so you do almost get a frame of platinum as you would a channel setting but also squares off the ring which again matches her wedding band.0 -

Maybe show her some pictures witout prices on?
Or 'prime' an assistant at the shop you intend going to, to show her a selection without mentioning prices?2.22kWp Solar PV system installed Oct 2010, Fronius IG20 Inverter, south facing (-5 deg), 30 degree pitch, no shadingEverything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endMFW #4 OPs: 2018 £866.89, 2019 £1322.33, 2020 £1337.07

My husband chose and got me a diamonds all round one, cut into a v shape, at the bottom front, so that my solitaire engagement rings sort of slots into that (don't know how well I am explaining this!)
I have very small hands, so anything bulky would have been too much.
Anyway, I am sure she will love whatever you get.
LinYou can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset.0 -
Set aside a day for just the two of you. Take her out for lunch and give her a ring box with an IOU inside. Then tell her you're about to go to the jewellers to buy her a ring.
She can either choose it with you or you'll choose it yourself. Job done.
This is all supposing that her objection isn't because buying a ring would stretch you too much financially. If it would be a stretch then I'd postpone doing anything.0 -
Thanks all.
Whilst it would be great to have her help choose, I know she would far prefer it if I went for it myself.
She has small hands, with ring size G 1/2 - and wouldnt want anything flashy.
I think I am going to go with a 2mm one, which should sit nicely with her 3mm platinum band. Looking last night, the engagement ring is very narrrow, i'd say something like 1mm or 1.5mm max.0 -
Any decent jeweller would be happy to exchange an unaltered ring within a few weeks of purchase..I buy presents for people on the understanding that they can exchange if it isn't their taste in the shop we use for jewellery.
I never really thought about it before but my rings all match in width and depth I have an engraved wedding band a 3 diamond Engagement ring and a 6 diamond eternity ring and I have small fingers too. On my other hand I have a 16 diamond ring that my husband bought for our 10th wedding anniversary they are all 22carat yellow gold and like others have said it's really the only jewellery I wear most of the time.
I lost a stone from my engagement ring last year and the same jeweller repaired it and made sure the other stones were secure and he valued all my rings I was shocked at the increase in value on all of them..make sure you get the right valuation on the insurance just in case.0
