Stuck in internet contract - anything I can do

Hello

I have a contract with BT for 18 months but unfortunately split with my BF and we are going our separate ways back to parent homes. This leaves me paying for the internet which we only just renewed, on a place neither of us live. Is this allowed?

I have spoken to BT and they say there is nothing they can do, unless I just pay of the balance.

Help much appreciated!

Thanks
Corinne

    You agreed to a contract.

BT would willingly stick to their end of it, so it's only fair that you do too.

  • BT are contracted to supply me a service, which they are no longer doing, does that not count for anything?

No, they are contracted to supply internet to the property you have moved from-they are still doing this.

It's hardly BT's fault that you and your boyfriend are splitting up. As you have been advised, you'll have to pay an Early Termination of Contract (ETC) fee in order to cancel.

That is probably your best bet.

You did not say whether you have your phone line with BT and whether it is a combined package ie starts at the same time. You might have had the phone line first and the broadband later.

Presumably your parents have a phone line so probably not much you can do with that except pay the termination fee. The broadband you might be able to use.
