Refunding without a defect

I disagree, even though you dashboard may not be showing these, it should count as a defect. Ebay themselves say that the defect dashboard has bugs and may not be accurate at the moment. As far as I remember the only reasons that shouldn't get a defect are "buyer purchased by mistake" or "buyer is returning for a refund". The other should give a defect. Given that my defect dashboard is showing transactions that don't exist and items I've never sold, I do not have much faith in it's accuracy at this time.

Whether you diagree or not, you are wrong. if you do not have experience of how it works, please do not advise others.

Just a last week I had 2 people buy and they emailed to say they had chosen the wrong size, did I have x size - no, I do not so I chose the other option as none of the others applied. I've had 2 recent cases where the supplier has sent me the wrong size in the packet marked the right size and I have caught it before shipping - again, spoke to the buyer, refunded and used 'other' as the reason.

'Other' does not give you a defect. I have opened over 70 cases, I know what all of them are for as the report you can download will tell you. You will be on a rolling year so something has happened over the last year, expend your resoluction centre.

I'm on 3 month assessment, I don't have any defects for cancelled transactions, I always use buyer returning for refund. Maybe the op will update in a week when their dashboard updates.

So you have never used the 'Other' option then? Well I have. Many times. You do not get a defect so stop telling people they will.

They are defecting you for problems which are your fault - running out of stock, selling it to someone else instead of the person that bought it (maybe someone offered you more money after an auction ends) or when an item does not arrive (to stop sellers who sell something expensive for 99p but do not dispatch it).

Choosing any of the other reasons do not get you a default.

However, refunding by going directly to Paypal will get you a defect. To avoid this you need to go into My Ebay and click on the 'Paypal Transaction' link for the item and then refunding, this will not get you a defect. You do not need to have opened a case before refunding. If you do not open a cancellation case and let ebay keep the FVF fee you also will not get a defect. Funny that. :cool:

I went into the Ebay listing of the item, chose view Paypal transaction , clicked on that and refunded through Paypal. I opened a case to cancel the transaction and chose 'Other' as the reason.

The buyer agreed. I have had my FVFs credited. The item was £50, so wasn't going to let Ebay keep my £5, they have enough money off me !

I will update in a week when my dashboard has been updated.
