Would be a 22 mile round trip to nearest for me. I have never gone that far on a road trip I guess I am lucky to have most stores within 5 miles.

I can't believe the little boogers had been at it again. Hoping once the carpet finally goes down they might stop once their heads hit the black plastic we are putting under. The pallet idea went out the window for this year once we knew we had them.

Good morning. Lovely day here but also very fresh outside. I have a couple of questions for the gardeners:
    1) How do I know when my potatoes are ready to harvest?

    2) What do you feed your cucumbers with - mine is about the size of a gherkin & there is only 1 growing and I have 3 plants.

    Thanks

I give mine a dollop of tomato food when I do my greenhouse toms (twice a week). My cucumbers are a bit odd this year - 2 of them are cropping well but my more expensive F1 hybrids seem to have almost all male flowers and only a couple of females.

    Hi,
Can you tell if the flowers or male or female?

    Morning all.

Strange night. Dreamt of my ex then decided it would be a good idea to message him this morning, after successfully cutting him out of my life for the past 8/9 months.

I'm a bit hormonal, Steam is hot and cold....there are reasons for it I'm sure. Still feel like an idiot but it was a very harmless message and what's done is done I guess! Moving on with the rest of my day!

Have three full bags of shopping to take to our local foodbank thanks to the elite. Have popped in the last of those 1p choc covered fruit boxes as well as the usual tinned stuff.

    Good morning :)

After your potatoes have flowered and the flowers have died off, they are ready.
I give my cucumbers tomato food. If you have plenty of flowers on your cucumber, take a small brush. A fine paint brush or even a make up brush and dust it lightly inside all the flowers. Some varieties need a little help with pollination. The plant has male and female flowers and if the haven't been pollinated naturally......by bees, insects etc, they sometimes need a little help HTH

ETA just saw your question about male and female flowers. The female flowers are large single flowers and if you look at the base of them, they will have what looks like a miniature cucumber below the flower. Male flowers are smaller and grow in little clusters
