One of my unexpected pleasures as been shelling peas with littlest DD - had no idea she had never done this before, but it is something I rarely buy and I don't grow my own vegTook me back to shelling peas for my mum many moons ago - although I think we always ate more than ever reached the pot.
I used to love doing this my nan, I dont think my kids have ever done it either.0 -

:T thanx
I've never heard of peach jam.
Will be interesting to see just how many different jams the elite can come up with in the next week or so
Do I have to do something special with the jars? I've just been slapping them in the fridge with a lid on when I'm done (not that the contents have lasted very long :rotfl: )
if you want to store them you have to sterilise the jars I wash well then rinse in boiling water then put in oven upside down and heat while jam is boiling, oven aproz 140 degrees lids i cover with boiling water and leave for a few mins..0 -

They remind me of those chewy fruit wheel things my friend used to eat as a teenager, it's a kind of hard, tough sheet (hence 'leather') which sets so that you can tear off pieces. It's just another form of preserving really, if jams and chutneys aren't your thing, or if you've got loads already!
you answered that much better than mei say leather like chewy fruit rolls, i make some every summer and have a few kiln jars full but they dont last that long we cut into strips and roll, favourites are strawberry and apple and blackberry. I do cheat as have a fruit dehydrator

Thanx hun.
I soaked the last jars in boiling water but didn't oven them.
Will do that this time before using them.
