Martin's up to date list of the best rates is here:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/savings-accounts-best-interest
    Also ISA's here:
    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/best-cash-isa

Getting better rates can be dependent on tying your money up for a couple of years though, so make sure your mum is ok with this.

I'd advise actually spending some time in the financial forums looking at the threads which are far more comprehensive and more up to date than any of the MSE guides.
The pages above do not show the full picture with many top paying accounts missed from the 'MSE best buy' tables due to spurious reasons.
