Vodafone Scam?

Hi all,

Here's a story for you! My Vodafone contract expires next month. About 5 weeks ago I received a call offering me an upgrade but I'd already decided to go SIM only (happy with my phone, saves money).
So I was offered an HTC One M8. No thanks, I said, I'm ok. The upgrade guy seemed desperate for a deal so offered it to me on my current price plan (£21) with 600 minutes, texts, 250MB web, no mention of an upfront cost for the phone. I said no, so he then reduced the cost to £18. I said I'd think about it and didn't appreciate his pushiness.

Later I went into a Vodafone shop and asked them their opinion on the deal and I soon learnt it was the deal of the century so I called back.

The upgrade guy hadn't made any notes in the account so Vodafone were going to listen back to it to see if I'd misunderstood or he'd been ceap at his job and misquoted. No one got back to me despite it being escalated and me calling back each week. I was always told it was being escalated and someone would listen to it within 72 hours.

This Saturday I'd had enough and phoned up to cut all ties and go to Tesco mobile. The chap I spoke to was really helpful and deduced it was a call through a 3rd party company. The call could still be traced and he saidd his manager would listen to it that afternoon and call back Sunday.

Still I heard nothing so called up again today. Now I was told the call coukdnt be found which makes me suspicious that the offer was wrong and Vodafone didn't want to honour it. Vodafone say it was all well and good that I turned it down as they think it was a scam even though the call had been logged on their systems.

What's it all about?

Anyway, I've given up now and gone SIM only but stayed with Vodafone as the price was right. On principle I shouldn't because if the fairly crap customer service.

A lot of sales guys lie - it's not just Vodafone, it crops up everywhere.

In the mobile field it's common for third parties to pretend to be from your network in an attempt to sell you upgrades and/or insurance, so it is entirely possible that it wasn't Vodafone who even called you.

My personal attitude to it is to never agree to anything at all over the phone. If it sounds amazing I will ask for something to be sent in the post confirming the details for me to sign. Normally they shy off at that point and tell you the 'deal' is a one-day only thing and you have to do it there and then - that's when you know to run away!

A lucky escape. Had you accepted the offer you'd almost certainly have found what you got wasn't anything like. Never agree to anything by phone; always get it in writing first. Basic.

250MB. Really? How some people make that last a month is beyond me. I use 10-15GB without even trying.

I called them to see when my contract expired. Turned out to have expired the week before i called.

I mentioned a few features i wanted and they suggested some phones. I said i will look them up online to check the specs and make a choice can they phone me Friday. This was on a Wednesday. No problem they said.
Soon after i get a text saying my order is on its way and will arrive tomorrow.

I phoned them back and seems they have sent me a phone which doesnt have all the features i mentioned.
