I would say if you have got less than a half a stone to a stone to lose then you could try the shakes, but any more than a stone and it just isnt going to work long term.

I have tried the Celebrity Slim, lost a stone in two weeks. After a month I couldnt do it anymore, and now I weigh more than what I did when I started. Im doing Slimming World now which is actually changing the way I think about food and what Im putting in my body.

I like it a lot. I only have the vanilla shakes and vegetable soups + chocolate (very thin coating!) and coconut bars. I don't like any of the other flavours and I don't mind the same thing every day. I spread my milk allowance over the day by adding to the vanilla shakes. I add a little meal in the evening, usually chicken and broccoli. I drink 2-3 litres of water per day, but I do that anyway when not on the shakes. I add a spoon of inulin to my morning shake (mix it with the powder before adding liquid) to keep things regular, if you know what I mean. You can buy that with the shakes but I get mine from Amazon.

I know some people think that meal replacement is a bad idea but it's the only thing that has ever worked for me. Even then, I lose less than the predicted amount per month but I do usually lose at least a pound or two every week, possibly 4-5 pounds in the first week but that's mostly fluid.

But they didn't work for you because you are now having to diet again?

I know that people have mixed feelings about shakes. I am aware that they aren't a permanent fix and I do only want to use them for a short period. Mainly to boost my weight loss and lose a bit in a short space of time. As I mentioned, I've not used any before. I have done slimming world which I lost around a stone on and then gave up as I couldn't see much of a change. I also couldn't deal with so much planning and preparation!

You're filling yourself full of chemicals!

What do you think food is made of? :rotfl:
Ive lost 3 stones in a year with no shake, no pills, no calorie counting, no starving myself.

Congratulations! :T:T I'm very pleased for you. (I am not being sarcastic.) I just can't do it that way. I think it's better for me physically and mentally to do something I know will work rather than spend a few more years continually failing.

So anyone who loses weight with food will never have to diet again? I'm sure there are plenty of people who have used WW or SW and find the weight creeping back on a few months or years down the line. I think 2 years of keeping the weight off is a pretty good indicator that it can work. I can look back and see exactly what made me start eating the wrong things, so this time I'm better prepared to not fall into the same trap.

Anyway...It's not my job to defend soup and shake diets, I was just trying to help the OP, so I'll leave it at that.

If you make the right changes then they are changes for life, so yes, you should be able to keep the weight off forever.

You are actually losing weight by having a calorie reduction. Even though I didnt count calories I reduced my portion sizes so there was obviously less calories in compared to what I was eating before.

Its not the shakes that are making you lose weight, its your reduced calorie diet.

The problem with reducing your calories to a very low level, is when you have to start to maintain your weight loss and you want to eat more, you have to keep your cals very low or weight will start to pile on.

Which for many people, simply isnt realistic.

Diets don't work. What works is changing what you eat and sticking to it.

I don't eat processed food with additives, biscuits, crisps, Pot Noodles, pasta, rice, potatoes, bread, noodles, popcorn, cereals etc.

Organic or at least additive free, plenty of veg, fruit, some dairy, eggs, meat, fish, seafood, poultry, game.
  • I use herbalife, the shakes actually contain 207 calories once mixed with semi skimmed milk and are the only shake worldwide which was be called a healthy meal replacement. They are full of nutrients and vitamins. I am now at my target weight thanks to using them. Out of all of the shakes on the market I'd recommend herbalife. After all famous footballers use them :)
