Weight loss shakes

Hi all, I'm sure this has been asked before - if recently then I do apologise.

I'm looking at using shakes to help me lose a bit of weight but I'm unsure as to what ones work best? I've never used any before and have recently been told about "body by vi" however, it is pretty expensive to just try blindly I suppose.

I've seen celebrity slim and optislim and obviously slim fast. Are there any products people recommend?

Thanks

    Hi OP,

They are a false economy. As soon as you stop the shakes, you put the weight back on and usually a bit more.

Perhaps look at your diet and exercise regime and see where you're going wrong, as the meal replacement drinks are expensive and kind of pointless in the long term.

Yes I am aware of that, I just want to try them out and see how I go. I don't eat badly but I need to get rid of some weight relatively quickly.

I'm using shakes at the moment. I lost 6st previously on Cambridge and kept 5.5 off for more than two years. It's been creeping back on over the past 6 years so now I'm using All About Weight. (I tried VI but it didn't suit me and then my friend - who was doing it too and bought the packs for me - had lots of problems getting her payments cancelled. I do know other people who think it's great though.)
All About Weight has 25% off at the moment with a code (received in an email, not sure if I can mention it here or not), but the offer expires at midnight tonight.

How are you finding "all about weight"? I've not heard of it before, I'm just having a look on their website now

I wouldnt touch any shakes. They are just an expensive low calorie drink.
I believe herbalife has 90 cals or so per shake, the reason people lose weight is because they are basically starving themselves.

If you need to lose weight quickly you can still reduce calories without having to spend a fortune on meal replacements.

I like it a lot. I only have the vanilla shakes and vegetable soups + chocolate (very thin coating!) and coconut bars. I don't like any of the other flavours and I don't mind the same thing every day. I spread my milk allowance over the day by adding to the vanilla shakes. I add a little meal in the evening, usually chicken and broccoli. I drink 2-3 litres of water per day, but I do that anyway when not on the shakes. I add a spoon of inulin to my morning shake (mix it with the powder before adding liquid) to keep things regular, if you know what I mean. You can buy that with the shakes but I get mine from Amazon.

I know some people think that meal replacement is a bad idea but it's the only thing that has ever worked for me. Even then, I lose less than the predicted amount per month but I do usually lose at least a pound or two every week, possibly 4-5 pounds in the first week but that's mostly fluid.

All About Weight says it is 'nutritionally complete in 4 mealpacks'. I'm probably getting a better balance of vitamins and minerals than in a normal day-to-day diet or in a DIY reduced calorie diet. I certainly don't feel or look like I'm starving.

I dont believe that to be the case, unless you are comparing yourself with someone who doesnt know anything about nutrition.

Ive lost 3 stones in a year with no shake, no pills, no calorie counting, no starving myself. And I speak as someone who doesnt find it easy to lose weight either.

Ive cleaned up my diet, lifted weights and exercised. All these shakes do is make a few people up the chain very rich indeed.

Having tried shakes, I'd really advise against it. I was using the Cambridge shakes to lose weight before my wedding two years ago, I found it really hard and I got myself into this cycle of being good until weigh day, then binge eating for the the next two or three days then going back on the shakes until weigh day and worrying that I wouldnt lose any weight. My mum coped with it a lot better, but we've both regained the weight we lost within two years and I'm back to trying to lose it again.
