HTC Radar unlocking problem

I have an HTC Radar that I bought a few years ago when my work Blackberry died and I needed a quick replacement while waiting for a new Blackberry.

It was a PAYG on Vodafone and worked well while I needed it.

When I got the replacement Blackberry work didn't want the HTC back and it has been in a drawer ever since.

My girlfriend needs a replacement phone for a couple of months so I said I'd unlock the HTC.

I've got an unlock code but when I put a working SIM into the HTC it just says no sim or invalid sim and doesn't give me the option to enter the unlock code,

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong or how to enter the code?

Thanks

    Lee,

thank you for your response and offer of help. Today I tried a Vodafone SIM in the phone and I'm still getting the No SIM or invalid SIM message so it looks like the phone is faulty, or at least the SIM card reader in the phone is faulty.

It was working fine when I put it in the drawer but these things happen. It's a pity that it would probably cost more to repair than the phone is worth.

I've tried the obvious and cleaned the contacts in the sim card holder.
