Thankyou dippy, another poster seems to of taken offense in the fact that i posted about 3 people who are high functioning, it just so happens they are the only 3 people i know that suffer from dysxlexia and therefore could only comment on them.:)

It's estimated that 1 in 10 of us have dyslexia to some degree

    "
Most people refer to dyslexia as a disorder or a disability, indicating that is results in the creation of people who have no intelligence. This is an extremely wrong notion as dyslexia and intelligence often go hand in hand which is not perceived by society. The problem with the general assumption is that dyslexics are just judged by their poor reading and writing skills that seem to be the benchmark of evaluation. However, these skills are acquired and have nothing to do with intelligence or IQ quotients in any form. In fact, almost all dyslexics have average to above average intelligence as revealed through testing."

All 3 of us qualified for MENSA membership- ie we are far from stupid.

My son has dyslexia, dyspraxia & joint hypermobility meaning his writing is very difficult to read. He is however very bright with an advanced vocabulary. It's a question of finding ways to cope

Again thankyou dippy very interesting...i'm going to read up on the condition as i'm totally intrigued now.

The sentence referring to people calling dyslexia a disability that then results in others associating dyslexia with low intelligence is very interesting to me as my friend who is the office manager in a law office told me she suffered growing up in school as people saw her struggling and thought she was 'thick'...when in reality she is a very smart intelligent girl.

I wonder how many people with this condition see it as a disability?.
Does anyone know if it qualifies people for PIP on it's own?

Come on guys, what is going on? I think both sides make some valid points but taking things personally and acting like children is very immature.

Dyslexia as I pointed out is a very complex problem, which new research suggest is a brain functionality problem, which can be classed as a mental health problem, since there is a clear genetic link to it. So lets not be too dismissive of that.

I have'nt found anything that states dyslexia could be classed as a mental health problem..infact i have read a couple of articles that are emphatic in there defence against it being classed as such.
    It's a learning disability!

I definitely have it - very slow to read a book from cover to cover when I was young - also numerically dyslexic - but once it was found out at school I shot up the classes from a group 4 to a group 1 with Maths & I was rated number 2 in class.

seems to be that all bill can do is pick on other peoples spelling mistakes ....

Whereas here you are just posting an insult, yet you of course will think that picking up on a spelling mistake is worse...

    It's a funny old world, isn't it?

it wasnt an insult. it was stating a FACT.
you pointed out spelling mistakes. that is a fact.
whereas you decided that the reason the mistake was made was because of a lack of value in education. that is your opinion based on what? fact? or based on your opinion that anyone who dares to have a different opinion to you must be stupid?
    now thats insulting
