    BUT ..only if you order online to pick up

    Do not go on spec as you will get a crap rate

    I got mine for 1.252 on Monday. But then I have a Halifax Clarity card ;)

    It's much more convenient to just walk up to an ATM and take the amount you actually need on the day, and the difference in cost will be pence.
    Yes the difference is that debit cards are honest about their charges, whereas bureaux de change aren't - they hide the bulk of their charges in their rate. Generally debit cards, even those with forex charges, are cheaper than changing cash. Best way is to use a card that doesn't charge, see the guide on the main site.
