missed flight

Hi everyone

We missed our flight to Barcelona today it was my daughter's first birthday and we were going away to celebrate not to mention it's been over 6 years since I had a holiday, So you can imagine how gutted I am.

My issue is we were held up by airport security over 3 tins off baby food and a bottle of aptamil milk. We had 2 bags one cleared no problem the other with the baby food we expected. But they kept checking the food banging and shaking the tin putting it into some machine while we stood there. When they initially pulled the food out of the bag they put it to one side not even explaining what they intended to do with it and putting our bag back through the x-ray only for it to come out and realise the milk and food is missing. So waiting in queue we asked what was happening only to be informed we would get it so we wait. Now at this point we could easily have made the gate. But the member of staff now had the food and kept testing the tins looked to me the machine wasn't working also I heard one of the staff shout their was a problem with the conveyor. Anyways we got our food and ran to the gate and just our luck it was the furthest one but with a pram and luggage it's not easy. When we got their we were told we had been unloaded and missed the flight. The stated that security had informed them we had passed through at 6:30 but I remember looking at my watch whilst in security and 6:50 we were still there. So they communicated the wrong information the security officer also asked us who we were flying with I assume to inform them but obviously not. Now it's cost me a further £190 to rebook for the following day plus we hotel room we paid for and taxi home and taxi back tomorrow. I have travel insurance with Columbus but I know we probably won't be covered but I feel let down over £5.00 of food which we would have quite happily sacrificed to catch our flight they made no effort at all to help us.

I have sent feedback to Manchester airport but haven't spoken to monarch or my insurance as they are closed but is there anything we can do.

Thanks in advance to any members who can help.

You are in the wrong forum. Try the general air travel - this one is about flight delay compensation.

Sorry, you didn't allow enough time at the airport. Security delays are not unknown, they need to be allowed for. Airports normally ask you to arrive 3 hours before departure (as a minimum) for International flight. Obviously if all goes OK less will do but if it doesn't..............
Even in small airports with just half a dozen flights per day I wouldn't cut it down to less than 2 hours if I was paying for the flight.
Turning left avoids some of the idiots (only some)

Hi thanks for the reply my issue is more with the staff who could ave notified the gate of the delay and not lied that we had passed and also why didn't they just say look food or flight and we would ave left the food to catch our flight. I'm not a frequent flyer and trusted the staff to at least have an eye on flights they asked us who we were flying with why ask if your not notifying them.
