Have Paypal changed your anti-spam preferences?

Paypal have changed my preferences so they can now spam me.

Go to my account/profile/Notification and Information Sharing choices

They have ticked this box

Information Sharing
Share my information with financial institutions that partner with PayPal to offer joint products (see the PayPal Privacy Policy for more information about this).

Now, I know for a fact I never gave them permission to do this, so any more spam from them and its off to the information commissioner.

This has happened to me too, I thought nothing of it after receiving a promotional email for the first time earlier, but on looking at my account it looks like my preferences have been edited...

So they're just breaching 3 of the Data Protection principles

    4. Personal data shall be accurate and, where necessary, kept up to date.
    6. Personal data shall be processed in accordance with the rights of data subjects under this Act.
    7. Appropriate technical and organisational measures shall be taken against unauthorised or unlawful processing of personal data and against accidental loss or destruction of, or damage to, personal data.

So yet another complaint to be fired off to the Information Commissioner this weekend.

My current count of complaints to the IC runs at

    1 win against Sky
1 in progress against Lloyds (definate win though IMO)
    1 now pending against Payscum

I've emailed payscum and there spamming company for an explanation. Always useful when they don't reply as it compounds the case against them (or in the Lloyds case when they did reply they admitted they were sending advertising)

I don't think I ticked this box when I signed up, it would be unusual if I had. Thanks for the alert, I've unticked mine now.

    Mortgage-free Glee!
.....and mine. Have put in a complaint to their lousy customer service people threatening that if the setting is changed in future, I will report them for breach of the Data Protection Act.
:D Thanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!:D

I think mine got changed too.

I wrote this as a complaint.
I noticed that my privacy settings had change without my knowledge, if the setting is changed in future I will report paypal
for breach of the Data Protection Act.
If I start to get third party E-Mails from my paypal address I will be reporting you anyway each time it is used, so it may be
a good idea to make sure you have not passed on my details to anyone.
I have taken a screen shot of my current settings.
    Thanks for reading.

  • Thanks for that, much appreciated. The sneaky, underhand barstewards have done the same to my account.
    Complaint imminent.
