What's happened to Malwarebytes?

When I clicked on the icon today to update it installed a new version, which looks completely different to the old one and I notice that it says "trial" at the top.

Does this mean that you can only use it for a while and then have to pay, or is it still free indefinitely?

I found the new one a bit confusing in that it didn't just have the usual full scan or quick scan options, everything seems to have been renamed.

Sounds like you've opted for the free trial of the full product. If this were me I'd uninstall it, install the free product and look properly at what options I was selecting so I didn't do the same again. It should revert to the free one at the end of the trial if you don't upgrade (pay) anyway.

    Thanks for the advice.

I can't understand why this happened. I clicked on the perform full scan and got the usual message saying database is 10 days out of date, so it connected to the server to update and then the only option I got was to install the new version:eek:

    Why are they doing this???

Can't remember where I need to go to install the free version now, can anyone advise please?

Had the same problem this week, double checked to make sure I had downloaded the free version, yet is still keeps coming up with 'Your free trial has ended, click here to upgrade to Premium edition', in the end just uninstalled it.

Just switch-off the free trial in the upper right and it reverts to the free version with a few interface.

The free option is on the homepage - https://www.malwarebytes.org/ You might end up downloading from cnet though.

I'll run a scan now and see if my free version tries this on.

After the update you get a fresh install which ends with an option to start the trail...

Just downloaded it again, it came up with the same message, but in the main display at the bottom right next to 'Real-Time Protection' there is link to 'End free trial' click on that and it reverts to the free edition.

As kwikbreaks above said, you have downloaded it all properly.

The error you made was when you got to the final option box there is a pre-ticked box marked Enable Free Trial Version. You should have unticked this and then you would have got the normal free edition.

The same catch applies to the installation of one of the free virus protection programs - I think it is AVG

Thanks for all of the replies.

So should I just uninstall and then reinstall it again and look out for the final box?

Also where is the hippo site to download the free version?

Marwarebytes changed its GUI several months ago, but you might just have caught up.
Get it from the link in kwikbreaks' post #6 (forget about FileHippo), and be on the lookout for all the suggestions about Trial and/or Premium versions, as everyone has already said, and just choose Free throughout the process!
