Just use a comparison site; plenty to choose from here:

You do realise that old gas meters record consumption in units of 100 cubic feet don't you?

Anyway, you still need to convert that to kWh to compare costs - your bill will explain how.

Thanks for this link but not quite what I needed.
I am happy with supplier but want to monitor usage on a weekly basis by merely entering readings from meters to compute weekly costs to keep an eye on DD.
I recognise gas has to be recomputed into KWh but was hoping that this would be taken into account in formulas.

I have made my own, quite simple to do. The problem comes with gas accuracy as the CV varies so you need to download it from NG and use that in your calculations. My spreadsheet normally comes within 2p of the actual bill and is usually down to rounding at various stages in the calculation - and my current gas supplier using 4 decimal places in the CV.

Not sure I'd be too concerned about the variance of calorific values. I have them from readings between May 11 and April 14 and the range was 38.88 and 39.31. I'd suggest that a round value of 40 would be very safe to use in calculations.

One matter may be easily overlooked, that whilst what the Op is doing will show position as is, the real need may well be to forecast the future usage and needed updates to payment levels.

Use it as an opportunity to learn how to set up your own spreadsheet. The sums aren't difficult so you won't be trying to enter complicated formulae and you'll have the satisfaction of learning a new skill

There is a very good iPhone/iPad app called "Meters" by Graham Haley.

I think the basic App is free then there are a couple of 69p add on options within the app. It's a great little app and easy to use. I've been using it for about 3 years for electricity, gas, solar PV & water.
  • I've made some spreadsheets for recording, calculating, estimating predicting, and comparing energy costs. I've tested them with a couple of different tariffs and a few different ways of entering readings but please do not totally depend on them, there are no guarantees. They don't do economy 7, nor discounts. They look complicated but basically all you do is enter your tariff, gas conversion (which has some defaults already in) and enter your readings. They should work for quarterly or dayly readings but the charts only plot 12 readings, though if you have some familiarity with Excel you should be able to adapt them. Please remember they are Excel spreadsheets and not proper applications. The forum is objecting to me posting a link but it is basically -
Double u, Double u, Double u, dot, thnet.co.uk/power/ - I'm doing this with good intentions please don't ban me.
