I have a laptop that's 14 months old and I wanted to add more memory but the slot to add the card is faulty, now I think under SOGA Curry's who is the retailer should repair it as its 14 month's old and the slot never been used do it was faulty when bought.
Anybody any idea what will happen when I take it back for repair. I expect Curry's will say no go away but if they do what is the next option
Thanks

As its over 6 months the onus is on you to prove the fault has been present since manufacture. Now they are more than likely to ask you to provide a report from a qualified specialist, which they should refund you if the report backs up the fact it was there from the outset.
They may offer to repair it, but it wont be free and laptop repairs usually are disproportionately expensive...0 -
I bought on my credit card does that make a difference0

What exactly is wrong with the memory slot?
If it something such as the plastic slot being badly manufactured or incorrectly fitted to the board then there is a chance that if you point this out to Currys then they might accept that it was a problem that had been there since manufacture and not require you to prove anything.
If however, it is physical damage that could possibly have been caused by attempting to fit a memory module incorrectly or some other user damage, you will in all likelyhood need the type of report that visidigi referred to.
Some laptops have more than a years manufacturers warranty, and if this is the case with your one, it might be quicker and easier to contact them.
Whatever you do, make sure that you back up all of the info on the laptop before letting go of it.0 -
new memory card and existing one fits ok in the slot but the computer does not recognise any card in slot 20

Have you tried putting the original stick of RAm that you have (the working one) in the 2nd slot and leaving the original slot empty?
Another this is have you checked to see what the maximum RAM that is supported by your motherboard is as some laptops can be quite low in this respect.
It might be worth posting on the tech board as there are some extremely knowledgable people on there.0 -
Hi Yes I have out the original in the 2nd slot , still doesn't work and the spec for the memory is 8GB0

In that case, it might be worth backing up all of your data then resetting the laptop back to factory settings just to make sure that there isn't a software issue caused by something that was installed over the past 14 months. It's unlikely to be the cause but it's worth ruling it out as this will probably be the first thing that Currys ask you to do.
It would also be worth checking on the manufacturers website to see if there are any updates available for the BIOS of your laptop.0 -
