When do repairers call?

Scratched the car. Hit a wall reversing. No damage to wall, and car is drivable. Rang insurers, and they use a company called Nationwide. They will ring us on Monday. How long before they pick up car and drop off courtesy car? And do I need to be at home when they arrive?

Claiming for a scratch? Can't help but feel you're gonna be paying that and more with increased premiums and not incurring +1 ncb

Its scratched down to the metal, plus it's 3 sections, door (small dent too) wheel arch and rear panel. The excess is £75, so I think it's worth it.

Do you think it could be handled by a smart repair, maybe be cheaper in the long run. I assume you have protected no claims?

Not sure. But I've not made an insurance claim for 10 years, so I've forgotten how this all works.

3 panels, dent, respray, I don't reckon a smart repair would cover that well.

Your insurance docs will show whether or not you have protected ncd.

If not your claim will mean you have 3 years ncd at renewal.

Do some dummy quotes with and without this fault claim in your history to see what difference it makes to the premium before claiming. Change the ncd when adding the claim.

They will come when ready to do the job.

They should come by appointment. You are better being there to inspect the courtesy car (and get them to agree the condition of your car too)

No I don't have protected NCD. I had a good look at it earlier and it's really going to be a repair job, cos now I can see the back panel is out of alignment too! Anyway, does anyone know what this company is like and how long they take etc?

Do you think it'll be this week? And what do you mean 'get them to agree condition of your car'? Thanks!

    Depends how busy they are.

If your car is pristine (or damaged) apart from the damaged area then get that marked on the paperwork.

They will want you to agree the condition the courtesy car is in! (If they don't and it has any damage then insist they write it on their paperwork)
