Some high st retailers like Euronics can do it even quicker for you. I am mates with my local Euronics centre and have been in there many a time, with customers buying, say fridges and washing machines and they were delivered in a few hours, free delivery and many times free fitting and collection of the old one.

Worth trying them first, the one by me, carries at least one of what they have on display in stock, otherwise they get next day delivery to them usually

First - we are going to clean the coling fins thoroughly !

And brand new things are always correct?? Seriously don't trust a single TM, new or old.

But, trsting your instincts, ("it feel warm"), is usually not far off the mark.

Is the lobby ventilated, and whats the temp in there?

What brand is it?, I thought they all dipped into a common European parts bin.

Sorry these are just off the walls questions, it may simply be failing, in which case repair or replace.

Its a HOTPOINT and the lobby is just a larder and no its not ventilated

We had the same thing happen about a month ago. After messing around for a day trying to fix it (well cleaning it, leaving it unplugged for a bit, shouting at it) we decided just to buy a new one. I ordered from AO at around 11pm and we had the new one delivered the following day, pretty great! It was too warm to leave fridge food unchilled so I used the (thankfully still working) freezer to chill some of those cool packs then put the food from the fridge into big insulated bags (shopping bags from Iceland and Sainsbury's). Anything that could be frozen went into the freezer. I didn't end up throwing anything away.

    OK Update
    The model is Hotpoint FFA52P
We left the fridge on max - overnight and this morning - the thermometer (calibrated against a room thermometer - and proved identical) - showed 4 degrees - so spot on
But the fridge is set on max - which it should not need to be
We are leaving it set on max - until the weather cools down a little to see what happens !!
Oh yes - we also pulled it out and vacuumed around the fins at the rear - not that there was much dust...

And Hotpoint is owned by Indesit and they are made in Italy,
you really would be hard pressed to find a fridge made in the UK nowadays;)

Not an issue though, means the parts often interchange with other brands.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Ive had exactly the same problem. If you google it, its a known problem where there is a build up of ice behind the back panel of the freezer, which stops the cold air being circulated into the fridge. There is plenty of advice by electrical repairmen.

The advice given was to empty the freezer (take all of the drawers out), switch off at the wall and unplug. Then unscrew the back panel of the freezer (about 8 screws), behind that there will be ice build up. Remove this, then you need to unclip the next back panel (the one with the fan at the top). Behind that there will probably be a large build up of ice. Remove this, check the drain hole at the bottom is clear, then put everything back together.

We have contacted Hotpoint, we were worse than useless, and even admitted it was a known problem. I tried my local repair shop, who said they don't repair them anymore because its just not cost effective. Im now having the defrost in this way approx. every 6 weeks (you can tell its due as the fridge temp goes up). I did it yesterday, and its a pain.

I seriously think I will be buying another fridge freezer soon and it definitely wont be hotpoint/indesit/zanussi!!!
