Fridge problems

We have a 4 year old Hotpoint fridge freezer that has suddenly decided to play up
The freezer side is working 100%
The fridge was 11 degrees this morning, despite being turned down yesterday - I turned it down to max this morning and it is now showing 7 degrees on the fridge thermometer.
I know that the air temperature is warm - but should we really have to turn the fridge down to max ?

At this time of year?, maybe.
Given central heating in most homes you could argue that the house is the same temp all year round, but it isn't as the kitchen has a long cool period overnight in winter when the heating is off, given conditions at present it is still likely 18 or so over night, the fridge doesn't get a rest. (the freezer doesn't for that matter either).
Is it near a washer or diswasher etc?, ie, another appliance that is acting against the fridge/freezer.
On the other hand at 4 years old it should still be performing at full strength, or maybe they just don't make them to last anymore;);)
Oh, try a different thermometerI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Oh, try a different thermometer
No - it is in a lobby on its own
And the thermometer is brand new
Besides - the fridge 'feels' warm
Maybe we should 't have bought "british"0 -
I also have a Hotpoint Fridge and a Hotpoint Fridgefreezer.
1 is 13 month old the other around 4 years.
both have been playing up, the 13 month the door got left slightly ajar.
although frostfree previous Hotpoint Fridgefreezers i have had still get a build up of ice behind the panels that can cause problem with temperature.
try turning off at least overnight with door open to defrost any build up of ice0 -

And brand new things are always correct?? Seriously don't trust a single TM, new or old.
But, trusting your instincts, ("it feel warm"), is usually not far off the mark.
Is the lobby ventilated, and whats the temp in there?
What brand is it?, I thought they all dipped into a common European parts bin.
Sorry these are just off the walls questions, it may simply be failing, in which case repair or replace.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Thermostat's packed up perhaps? Easy job to replace on a fridge.0

Is it a fanned or wet wall type?
If it is the fanned type (ducts at the back of the fridge, not a wet wall which condenses), then it is likely Ice blockage in the freezer blocking the duct carrying fanned cold air from freezer to fridge.
A THOROUGH defrost for AT LEAST 48 hrs with doors open will probably solve the problem. If it doesn't it is the first thing to do before paying for an engineer!0 -

The problem being what do we do with the food in the fridge now ?0 -
Does it have grills on the back of the unit? If so, are they all furred up with dust/fluff? Try hoovering the fluff away and see if that helps, did on one of mine years ago.
Where to put your food whilst de frosting? either ask a neighbour/friend, use an cool box with lots of ice packs in it,or failing that, it isn't going to help you out, buy a new fridge.
You cannot be without a fridge at this time of year.0 -

Some high st retailers like Euronics can do it even quicker for you. I am mates with my local Euronics centre and have been in there many a time, with customers buying, say fridges and washing machines and they were delivered in a few hours, free delivery and many times free fitting and collection of the old one.
Worth trying them first, the one by me, carries at least one of what they have on display in stock, otherwise they get next day delivery to them usually0
