            Sorry if this post comes across as very harsh, we've supported him for years through this and it's becoming impossible to continue.
 When you're supporting an addict who isn't intent on changing his/her way of living, all you're doing is enabling the addiction.
 It's a horrible situation to be in and very, very hard to step back but the addict doesn't care about the effect their addiction is having on family and friends.0

 Not sure what age has to do with addiction.
 Just wanted to state the obvious in that if he has no wish to give up, you are fighting a losing battle.
