I've only ever used water out of the tap and have not had a problem with anything going green. Do you empty the water out of the reservoir when you've finished using the iron each time? Otherwise would chucking some descaler in help sort out any problems?

Tumble dryer water and get a steam generator. Far easier to get all of the water out after you have used it.

Buy distilled water from Wilkos, probably on car maintainence section and use that.

Clean it now and again like this

Do you leave it on a windowsill/in direct light when you've finished with it? I keep mine in a cupboard, never had a problem with it going green.

If it's sitting in direct light it's going to go green no matter what water you put in it.

Yes that's exactly it, it can only go green through algae growing and that need sunlight, put the iron away and you shouldn't have an issue.

For years we spent money on de-ionised/ distilled water and never had an issue with irons, steamers etc.
Over the last few years we haven't bothered, and we still haven't had an issue so the jury is still out on that one as far as I'm concerned even though we do live in a hard water area.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Buy a bottle of Ironing water from any supermarket, Sainsburys do a nice one and it is about 99p. M&S sell some which smell like clean linen and is lovely and stays on your clothes for ages.

As posters above have said, you are not emptying the iron when finished and putting it in daylight. Put it in a cupboard, or in indirect light and it wont go green.

My iron lives in daylight. It hasn't gone green after 15 years.

    Just empty it after use!!!

If you have a freezer with ice build-up you can defrost some and use that. It's effectively distilled water.
