Wonderful, I want that to be me, god willing.
On a side note pukkadad and I are off to Barcelona for his 40th, four nights, kids free and this sounds amazing, is it expensive?

I envy you pukkamum, I loved every second of my 5 night stay. Meals out aren't expensive, or if you're self catering the markets have lots of choice. Some of the little restaurants off the main roads are clean, helpful and very good value. There's also Mackie D's but don't tell the kids, the Spanish food is good! ;)

To get around the T10 ticket gives you 10 trips on metro, buses and trams, cheaper than buying individually.

There's plenty do that's free, the coloured musical fountains, Font Magica, every evening at Montjuic. Gaudi's Park Guell (be prepared for a long uphill climb to reach it) amazing gardens with lots of strange curiosities to see on the walks through the trees, and although you have to pay to see inside his house the park itself is free. To walk up La Rambla is an experience in itself, lots of street performers, stalls, cafes etc., and we weren't pressured to buy. The big market, Boqueria, is off La Rambla, about half way down on the right. Super array of fish, meat, fruits etc, the stall holders compete with each other for the best display.

Some of the sights you have to pay for are well worth it, La Sagrada Familia was breathtaking as was the cable car ride over Port Vell. There are two cable cars, the other one is at Park de Montjuic. There's so much to do, your holiday is going to be busy and fun.

One thing to be aware of is pickpockets. We'd been warned and experienced them on the underground but luckily they didn't get away with it. Some are as young as 10 so don't trust anyone who gets too close to you!

    Have a super time! :)

(Sorry to go off topic, OP :))

When my ageing parents started to need help and I realised that our roles had reversed.... They had become the child and I had become the adult.

What made you feel fully grown or do you not?

I remember as a child looking round at all the adults in my life and thinking how grown up, responsible and in control of everything they all were. Of course life isn't really like that and I am sure they suffered with the same insecurities and worries that we all do. They just hid it all very well.

I am 41 now, raising two children, running my own life and home and holding down a career I love. Life has thrown things at me that could really only be handled and got through by a grown up. Yet I still don't feel that way about myself. Most of the time I feel like a big kid, who has a 'what's the worst that can happen' approach to it all. Making the most of everything and just hoping it all turns out for the best.

I gave up taking things too seriously years ago, when the life I thought I wanted was pulled like a rug from underneath me :)
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.
