As a maternity night nanny my tips for twins don't buy Moses baskets buy one cot n initially have them next to each other n then one either end of cot both with bottom n only get a second cot when go into own room they should fit in one cot min of 6mths even if 38wks n if earlier even longer.

Best thing we found for sleeping (although expensive) was a cosleeping cot. We got this one although they seem to have jacked up the price a little! http://twinsuk.co.uk/products/100858/Arms-Reach-Co-Sleeper-Twin-Cot-/

Our girls were large and did fine side by side in this until it was time to move to their own room.
Rpc you made me laugh - remember going shopping with a twin mum n she said it's a hell I cannot go anywhere takes ages we went to a major shopping centre I pushed pram n every time someone stopped n said ohhh are they twins I said nope triplets we have left the third in the car n just carried on walking.
Seriously - it's like you are some sort of frickin tourist attraction. "Double trouble" is going to end in blood and some people think "are they natural" is a reasonable question. No, they are robots of course!

I get this at least once a day, even a midwife asked me?! " a ready made family" also grates.
You do get a lot of attention with twins, but on the plus side, no parents of singletons will ever offer you unsolicited advice. You can see them dying to tell you how tough it was when their child was a baby, but they realise it's best to keep quiet as you have two to deal with.

I echo the co-sleeping thing but we have 2 x normal cot beds. One is currently upstairs where they both sleep at night, one downstairs for day naps, saves me traipsing up and down the stairs with babies all day. They're fine in the same cot for now, when they're about 5 months they'll probably both have separate cots in their own room. Also avoided buying Moses baskets with this system.

Congratulations , I have twin boys and would recommend getting a book on twins. Its not so much the practical side it helped me with but more the psychology of having twins - treating them as individuals , ie not dressing them the same etc. we already had a three year old dd at the time they were born , and I have to say it was easier with the twins as we had to be more organised and stricter with their routines.
    Anyway best of luck :D
