Hiring a car without a credit card

Hi. I can't find my original thread but I wanted to post an update as I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation
I asked for advice as everywhere says that you need a credit card to book your car hire and that a credit card is required when collecting. I don't have a credit card.
I've booked with my debit card and although when initially speaking to Alamo 6 weeks ago one operator insisted that it must be a CREDIT and not a DEBIT card another said a debit card was fine, anyway after booking the following information has come up on the confirmation page
"Important Policy Information: All renters and additional drivers must meet the minimum age requirements for the renting location. A major credit card or debit card and a valid driver's license both in the name of the renter will be required at the time of rental. Debit and check cards, considered to be any non-credit card bearing the VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover or JCB logo (except for gift/prepaid cards) may only be used in conjunction with proof of round trip ticket (airline, train, cruise ship and the like) and a cash deposit may be required in addition to the cost of rental. Without proof of roundtrip ticket, debit or check cards are only accepted on return. Any other non-credit card without the VISA, MasterCard, American Express, Discover or JCB logo is not accepted. Some locations may accept cash at the time of rental in lieu of a major credit card or debit card subject to other restrictions and requirements."
Hope you don't mind me copying and pasting, but I know I was really concerned up until reading this that I'd get to the States and then have no rental car.
Sorry if it's not the done thing still a newbie on the forum.
Also one of the pre paid credit cards (ICE) recommended on MSE DOES allow a reservation to be made on the card as long as you have the money in the account

I'm not sure what you are asking. What you have copied and pasted tels you exactly what you need to provide if you are using a debit card.0

No sorry. I had asked before about hiring a car without a credit card in the States. Although people had said they had managed to in Europe there was no confirmation that you could do it in the States.
I just wanted to clarify that it could be done as quite a few people kindly responded on the post and a few asked for an update when I had an answer.
What I have copied and pasted is from the Alamo site under their rental contract saying that you can hire a car with a debit card. IT doesn't appear anywhere on their site or even when I booked. It is only after I have elected for the fast track at the airport that you get this information. I felt it was important to let people know as even some of the operators at Alamo didn't realise that a credit card was not needed and I have been worrying about the card situation and arriving and being turned down at the airport.
Sorry that it wasn't clear.0
