Can someone read these amounts and translate for me please?0

For electricity, your unit rate is 14.19p, with a standing charge of 7.23p per day. That's pretty average.
Your usage is high - what kind of property are you running, and which high usage things are electric? (Heating, water heating, cooking?)
For gas, it's more complicated because the meter does not read in the same units as you are billed.0 -
We are in a 5 bed detached
I have been looking back at the bank and we have always been in credit with NPOWER, but back in 2013 when they adopted their new billing system they haven't taken any direct debits for 8 months which is why our account balance is so high ...0 -

Did you not notice you weren't paying them for 8 months?0 -

sooooo.... the bills are correct then.0 -
If it was their fault, you can ask for longer to pay off the debt.
Otherwise, not sure that anyone will be able to help. Big house, expensive to run - but presumably you know that.0 -

It really would simplify matters if you had mentioned that 'gem' in your initial post.
In my area, your gas/electricity consumption with NPower on their standard tariff would be £3,773.
So it isn't really surprising that you have a large debit balance when you haven't paid eight DDs of £268.
By increasing your DD to £547 they are clawing back your debt over a long period - approx. 1 year.
i.e. Debt is £3,000, annual expenditure £3,773 = £6,773. 12 x DD of £547 = £6,564
Whilst the appalling NP computer system is well documented, it would appear that they have now got their calculations correct in your case.0 -
Don't you ever check your bank statements.
It's really hard to have a lot of sympathy for someone who doesn't realise that their bank account is £268 a month better off than it should be and then does nothing about it.
If they haven't taken eight DDs of £268 then you should have well over £2000 sitting in the bank to pay most of it off. If you haven't then where has it gone.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
If you're not into the MSE mindset, then it's often just a question of whether there is month left at the end of the money, or vice versa.0

Holy Toledo! So you have a massive house and the bills haven't been paid for 8 months. I think we're onto something....0
