Speak to them again, because if they reckon you're paying 55p a kW, then you are paying about 4 or 5 times the average price!

Also, take a meter reading today, check it tomorrow, then YOU will know how many units you are using every day. Check the meters for yourself.

Is the billing estimated or actual?

Haven't you got any tariff information - look at your bills. What about reading your own meter to see if that's what you are using. Check back on previous meter reading and bill to see when you last had a proper reading rather than estimates and work out how much you've used since then.
55p a unit sounds ridiculous when the average is somewhere between 12-15p a unit - have you got a business account which is charging well over the odds.
Something is very wrong somewhere but you need to do some searching rather than just sitting back and letting it happen. Unfortunately if you are the sort that ignores bills or just pay them without checking them carefully and then chuck them away you'll find it hard to look back and see where or when it all went wrong. I'm afraid nPower aren't going to be much help based on other people's experiences.

I wonder if the OP is talking about gas and the 55p per unit is for a metric gas unit(approx. 11.2kWh) which would be about right for a standard tariff.

Doesn't explain the 35 'units' a day though.

Okay the woman at NPOWERsaid the electric is 55p a unit
so one hour of the washing machine would be 1 unit @ 55p

She said the average annual use of gas is 20,000 units but we are using 34,000

And she said we are using on average 12,723 units pa of electric

Unless you've some historical data of your own you'll find it hard to argue about your consumption unless you start keeping a very careful record of your meter readings to try and prove that your normal consumption is a lot lower. I'd however be jumping up & down about paying 55p kw for leccy and asking them how you can be on a tariff that high.
