Has anyone spent serious time apart and got back together?

My friends parents were together for about twenty years, had three kids, then split up. They were apart for 5+ years then got back together and had another child. I'd like to say they are happily married again but they're not. The reason they split up in the first place (incompatibility) still exists. The only thing that's different now is they are both elderly and don't want to live alone and have to deal with a divorce at this stage in life. So, they argue all the time and they threaten to kick each other out and their kids have to deal with constant fall outs - but they always stop short of actually ending their relationship. It's very stressful for the rest of their family.0

I know 2 couples who reunited after 10+ years apart. One are my good friends, they courted when they were young and my friend tells me he was the love of her life, but they split after a few years as he met his first wife to be. My friend went on and married had 2 children but after around 8 years the marriage ended. Out of the blue about a year later her first boyfriend called her, he had split from his wife and heard she was single. They have been together for 30 years. Happily mostly, but with the usual ups and downs that come with a 30 year marriage!
My ohs parents, his dm is from a country out of the EU where his dad relocated in the late 70s married his wife, had my oh and in the late 80s work dried up so he decided to return to the UK while my ohs dm wanted to stay in her country so they divorced. 10 years later they started to see each other and she relocated to the UK and they have remarried. They've been together now over 10 years and are happyDF as at 30/12/16

My uncle and aunt got together in the 1960s when they were in their 20s, were together for a few years then split up for seven years. In their 30s they got back together, married and were together until he died two years ago. They were utterly devoted to each other in all the time I knew them (the split happened before I was born).0

I'm glad I found this thread, I'm in this position right now. I was married to my ex for 14 years and we had two wonderful kids together now 13 and 7. We've been apart for 4 years now and we've both come to realise that the divorce never should have happened. I've been incredibly stubborn for some years after the divorce as it did hurt me but I was recently involved in an horrific accident which has made me think differently. I have asked my ex if we can have a chat which she has agreed to. I am hoping that we can sort something out and maybe reconcile something as I care deeply for her still.
Here's hoping0
