Has anyone spent serious time apart and got back together?

I know I am asking the same question as someone else but in a different way but I was wondering this a few days back and curious to find out.

Has anyone got divorced and got back together with their partners...and I'm not talking a few months but like 5+ years?

Was it the same? Did it work out the 2nd time around?

I'm not asking for me I am very happy with my current partner/soon to be hubbie. :p

I can't answer personally - but my cousin was married for 20 years, when her OH announced that the marriage wasn't working, and he wanted a divorce - then a year later married a colleague whose marriage also "hadn't worked". Fast forward another 15 years, that marriage had gone t*ts up, he'd married again, lost that wife to cancer .....started to court my cousin again - and they remarried the year that they would have celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary:eek:.

That was 5 years ago - they seem happy enough ....

A woman I work with remarried her ex-husband after a good few years divorced. They're still together a few years on and seem happy.

Depends why they split up in the first place.

If they were too young or immature and have grown up -or realize what mistakes they made first time around and have talked it all through and understand where they went wrong......... Maybe.

Marie Osmond remarried her first husband some twenty plus years, another husband and six children later.......and they seem to be very happy .

I wish I could tell the story but it isn't my story to tell, esp on a public forum but they did break up for something that happened. The marriage itself was happy.

My ex husband has just married a girl he went out with before he married me, they were very young the first time they went out. But i personally wouldn't revisit old ground with anyone. I'm onto husband number three, hope its third time lucky!!
  • My parents seperated and divorced when i was 9 years old after my dad left my mum. They both got remarried to other people had disastrous marriages and got back together with each other when i was 19 and remarried a few years later. Mum never trusted my Dad totally the second time round, with other women or money, but they jogged along and were always very lovey with eachother and seemed quite happy until my mum sadly passed away, The shame is they both said the split should never have happened in the first place.

I spent 18mths/2 years with my boyfriend, we split up.
I went on and married on the rebound had my dd.
Then got back with my ex, we spent about 3 years apart.
We've been back together just over 21 years now, and have 3 sons as well as my DD
  • I asked the other question/thread but thought I'd say something here after reading posts etc.

It seems that the likelihood of reconciling after time apart is increased if there are children involved. Not in every circumstance ofcourse, but that bond does seem to follow people around.

I think it is more that if you have children together you are more likely to remain in touch than a childless couple with no reason not to break all ties.
