Scottish Power CALL WAITING TIMES (and how to avoid)

Hello Everyone,
This is just a quick post for those unfortunate people like who are with Scottish Power.
I needed to speak to them this morning about an emergency prepayment key replacement for my mother. The automated lady said the call wait time, wait for it... Would be between 48 MINUTES and 1 HOUR 15 MINUTES!! How can they get away with this?!? I recently had to call the passport office who currently have a backlog of around 500,000 passports and I got through within 15 minutes!
Anyway, the hack I want to share with you is the following:
Call Scottish Power's head office switchboard on 0141 568 2000 and slightly exaggerate the reason you are calling.
The nice lady will put you through. I waited only 6 minutes before being connected to a human who was very helpful.
Hope this helps!

I must admit, it's been a few years since I've been with Scottish Power, but do remember that they are one of the few companies that do give an estimated waiting time rather than just leave you hanging on as most do with a "Your call is important to us and we will get to you as soon as possible" message.
Iirc, when there was a longish waiting period, you were usually offered the option of a free call back. Don't they do that anymore?
However I rarely took up that offer as I was often calling from work and there was no direct line to my desk (all incoming calls needed to go via the receptionist) and there was no option to give the extention number. I did find Scottish Power usually answered the call much quicker than they suggested the waiting time was.
Anyway, even if they don't offer you a call back, providing you have a direct line (such as a mobile that most people have nowadays), then you can request a call back, either asap or at a specified date & time to suit, here:

The longest i have had to wait is 90 minutes for Scottish Power to answer the phone. This was last Tuesday. Can anyone beat that?
Its regular over 40 minutes. And you dont always get the option for a callback0 -
49 minutes.
Twice! The first call cut off after 30 seconds of speaking to an advisor!!! (On my landline so probably not a fault my end).Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

Called them about 5-6 times over the past couple of months. 60 minutes was the average waiting time, one of the reasons i left.0

Best way to avoid the waiting times is never to use these muppets again. They would have to bribe me to use them anymore 3 million should do it0

I think the long waiting times are due to the high number of disatisfied customers...Je suis sabot...0

Switched away today. Only good thing is it's an 0800 number so at least they pay for my wait.Starting Debt: ~£20,000 01/01/2009. DFD: 20/11/2009 :j

I have been with Scottish Power for years, haven't had a problem with them. My calls usually get answered straightaway and if I do get the message offering the call back then I take it and within about half an hour I get a call back.
I tend to call either early morning or evenings or Saturdays.0
