This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all,

Just sitting here with my cuppa have taken some tablets and waiting to see if they help the neck pain at all, will give it another 10 mins and if no better will phone work, I hate letting them down but im not safe to drive let alone capable of doing a days work.

DD is having a fab time in Greece but its very quiet and tidy here, I do miss her but I am glad she is having a good time.

Something with chips for dinner possible chicken kiev will go and see after this. Other than that it will be a day of gentle pottering round.

Have good days all xx

    Morning All

Running a bit late this morning although I did get up early - not really sure what I do in the mornings, although I have done the ironing whilst it is still cool.

Loving this weather, there was a bit of a breeze yesterday so it was much more pleasant. All the washing is up to date and the garden is as tidy as it can be at the moment, may try to cut the grass before the weather breaks.

RR - Hope you are ok, you should maybe get a doctors appointment anyway even if your neck isn't sore just to mention it.
HH - Hope the family have come to their senses and MIL is comfortable.

Beginning the big end of term clear out so busy at work, just one week to go and it is the summer holidays. This week seems to have dragged by so hopefully it will pick up.

Hugs to those not feeling so good, Molly, hilstep and LW especially. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, cloudy, but not too dull, damp underfoot – looks like we’ve had some rain during the night, looks like it might brighten up.

DH up and gone to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was a cheeky takeaway – was a treat as DS1 passed his driving test yesterday. Not sure what we’ll be having tonight as I’m taking DS2 to the cinema, he was bought a gift voucher for his birthday and a film he wants to see is now showing, it’s at 5pm – so really awkward timing but there wasn’t a better time. Menfolk were asking if I would buy chips on our way home, that may be an option, but I will more than likely make myself a salad and leave in the fridge and just have it when we get back.

Made a start on the list of jobs – all the normal chores I do on a Wednesday got done, although I have a couple of extra items that need organising and so they are still on the list and an email sent that I’m still awaiting an reply to. I now need to get cracking with the washing, drying, ironing and housework and then menu planning whilst checking supplies in storecupboard and freezer etc. Would like to try to achieve a cheap week this next week, I seem to have quite good supplies – I just need to be able to use those to make meals – definitely need to do some baking/cooking for the tins as I haven’t done that for ages – now realising how much it saves me. I have everything in to make supplies – just been in a CBA mood and not been bothered. Although my general mood has been ok but we have been reasonably busy as we had the yard sale last weekend and I spent the 2 weeks before that getting items ready and I did the big clean up of my pc desk, cupboard in the desk and then the filing cabinet – it took most of the following week to shred all the documents that are no longer needed – there was loads – and I didn’t want to burn the shredders motor out.

Have a good day everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning all,

A little overcast at the moment, but I have put the washing out anyway.

Car is going in for a wash and brush up this morning, checking tyres and filling up with petrol ready for our holibobs.

Must pick up prescriptions from Drs. for ourselves and DD.

Will clean bathroom and wash kitchen floor.

Hugs and healing vibes to Molly and Hillstep and anyone who is not very well at the moment.

Molly I hope things have improved with your Mum and Dad, but mainly that you are trying to look after yourself, be kind to yourself.

Happy birthday to TTFTMs Daughter, time flies doesn't it?

    Have a good day everyone

    Hi everyone,

It's gone very quiet on the daily lately. Happy anniversary Bitsy Beans and happy birthday TTFTM's daughter. Well done NMLC's son.

As usual things are very quiet here. I printed off some organiser sheets to try to keep more on top of the housework and it helped yesterday so I shall try to keep going with them.

I have been really impressed by the selection of flowers at Aldi lately. I treated myself to delphiniums, freesias and lilies yesterday but they had peonies, alliums and other unusual varieties for a supermarket and most seem to be £2 or £3 a bunch.

    Have a good day.
  • Morning everyone, another lovely day here but we're possibly going to reach 27 degrees which is just a bit too warm for me. The poor old lurcha suffrs in the heat too it's not easy being a black dog with a built in fur coat in temperatures like this!!!

Congratulations to Master NMLC for passing his driving test, well done that lad and Happy Birthday to TTFTMs daughter hope she has a lovely day.

Houseworking today for as long as the heat will let me, I'm going tom wash floors and get DD1s room sorted out and the bed made up as she's coming home for the weekend WOOHOO!!!

Have a good day all, Lyn xxx.

    Morning all,

Congratulations Nmlc to your son for passing his driving test. You just have the worry of him going out in his car on his own now.... for the first few months at least. Only my daughters drive. I didn't know my eldest daughter was taking lessons. She lived nearly 200 miles away from me and one day just turned up on her own in a car. What a surprise I got that day!

My other daughter took 3 attempts before she passed. She was losing patience with herself and was beginning to lose interest till Daddy took her to look at cars. Next thing I knew she had spent £7000 on a car but had no full licence. She drove it back herself with her boyfriend in the passenger seat (as a full license owner). It was just the kick she needed. Mind you, I remember her first trip to work on her own. I made her text me when she got to work to tell me she'd got there ok as I did my eldest daughter when she drove the 180 miles back (on the motorway) after she left me that day.

No doubt i'll go through the same when 'Youngest' passes his driving test. He wont be going out with Daddy though like I did. I dunno who was more scared me or him!:rotfl:

Usual chores to do today, most completed but not all. 'Youngest' has gone into college to hand in his assignments.

Onwards and forwards, broom in one hand, cloth in the other,

    have a great day all.

    Afternoon everyone,

Thank you for all the congratulations for DS1. He's got a motorbike already which has been his method of transport for the past 18 months - I worry more about him on that than I will do in a car - which he hasn't got and until he gets himself a job as he finishes college shortly and doesn't want to go back I won't be paying for him to go on my car insurance. We bought him his motorbike and paid the first years' insurance (nearly had heart failure at the cost!) with the understanding that he would look for a part time job whilst at college to then help pay for the insurance after the first year - this hasn't happened, although he has looked and had interviews but he's not really applied himself and tried very hard. All the jobs he's gone for I've found out about them or pushed him too. Unfortunately I'm now at the "tough love" stage and he's going to have to learn. Hope I don't sound mean but just feel they have to stand on their own 2 feet at some time - he'll be 18 in December!

    Rant over ................!
