Would you buy a home close to a prison?

Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon
And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
I live pretty close to a cat C prison - about 2-3 minutes walk to the nearest wall. Having lived in & around this area for several years (previously renting, now owning) it didn't even occur to me to think about it.
As someone else said, you occasionally see prison officers around. Parking is terrible (so close to town centre) but the prison has been there for over a century so not sure how you'd quantify the effect!
To be honest, it's more of a landmark than anything - when someone asks whereabouts I live, I'll usually say 'near the prison' and think nothing of it - everyone does that.
My parents used to live near an open prison. One day my dad noticed someone in the field between their house and the road. He unlocked the gate so they could get out onto the road - and found out later it was an escaped prisoner!0 -
Maybe it's a good thing..? If a friend gets nicked, then it's quicker for you to visit them

I'm in the process of buying a house less than a mile from Strangeways, and I never thought anything it until now!0

Don't ever want a helicopter pleasure flight over your house though ,they have a real downer on those for some reason. :rotfl: not as bad as living near American listening stations but still !0

I lived a few streets over from a category B prison and never had any problems at all.0

If it's this one I'd say the prison is a complete non-issue

In Bedford, you could be very close to the prison wall as it's in the town centre
