Would you buy a home close to a prison?

Hi
I am currently house hunting and Ive seen a property that looks very promising. The only drawback I can think of is, its half a mile away from a class B prison. Never having lived anywhere near one I frankly dont know how or if this would impact on living there. Does anyone have any experience they can share ?
Thanks

Erm you do realise that there are criminals living all around you?! It's the ones not in the prison that you should be worried about!

.... And any that make their way out early without permission aren't likely to hang about in the neighborhood.
Being slightly less facetious, I'd imagine any loss you might make on selling from its imperfect location, you'll save buying it now.
Being more facetious still, Mrs Dubito will manage those visits very easily.0 -
I've lived around the corner from a prison and barely noticed it. There were prison officers in the pub sometimes, that was the only time it registered really.0

I live near Broadmoor hospital and apart from the weekly siren test you'd hardly know it was there.0

I was less than 2 miles from a category A prison and you wouldn't have even known it was there.Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!0

So true but the visitors can be worse than the ones inside. One of the cops shows recently had the visitors carpark under watch and seized more thana a few uninsured/stolen vehicles or drivers without a licence.
The funniest one though was a US show. Where they auction off cars seized and confiscated.
As the auction ran its course the police did a sweep of all the cars parked outside. Even they had to laugh about what sort of idiot comes to a police auction in an illegal vehicle?
Yet there were loads of them. Several trucks seemed to be busy towing them all away.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Not seen the show but those same visitors leave the prison car park and drive around going about their daily business e.g going to their local supermarket, places of work, picking kids up from school! Bet if they did a sweep of your local tescos or any car park in any town you would find a selection of stolen/ uninsured cars! Bet if stopped the shoppers you would be surprised how many had criminal records too! Only difference with a prison is that is reminds you people commit crimes! Prison wouldn't put me off buying especially at the distance listed by the OP.0

If parking is bad at the prison, staff and visitors will use the local area as with a hospital etc so check that out.0

I'd rather live next to a prison than next to a football stadium :rotfl: Seriously, some 20 years ago friends of mine were renting really close to Arsenal and cue trouble in the street at nearly every match (and even without trouble, you still have a gazillion people all over the place...) At the same time, other friends were right next door to Pentonville prison and frankly you wouldn't know it was there. Now free from the incompetence of vodafail0

Um... rather embarrassingly.... it just struck me that I grew up about a mile from Highpoint prison, and had completely and utterly forgotten - even though I posted it wouldn't affect me at #3

That was in rural Suffolk, and a civilised enough area for anyone. So, no, it wouldn't worry me at all.
Edit: 3 kilometres, as the [STRIKE]crow flies[/STRIKE] convict runs, according to GoogleMaps!0
