My mixer has died....

After many years of faithful, unfaltering service my electric hand mixer has died :(

So, ladies and gents of the OS money saving world; what do you recommend?

I rather fancy a stand up one (kenwood?) but am after some recommendations. I am at the stage where I need one, but don't like any because they're not my old one!!!:rotfl:

I have some cash squirreled away with which to treat myself:T

Be kind please - this is the first time I've started a thread!!

I've got a Kenwood food processor and I use it for lots of things - wouldn't be without it! :) Kenwood is my vote :)

Kenwood every time for me, but it depends what you use your mixer for and how often. I have a Kenwood Chef which I probably use 4 or 5 days a week for baking, liquidising or grinding. I also have a cheap(ish) hand mixer which I use for whisking small amounts of, for example, buttercream, cream and Angel Delight type things. Greedy I know, but I also have a hand blender (£15 in Wilkos) with a goblet which we mostly use for grinding small amounts of mince for burgers, or making milk shakes for the grandchildren. If I had more countertop space in my kitchen I probably would only have the Kenwood Chef, but it lives in a cupboard so it is mostly easier to get the small appliances out for small jobs.

I recently bought this and it's brilliant and a fraction of the cost of similar mixers.

I've been impressed with Andrew James's gadgets and now have the large halogen oven, which is great, a fantastic chopper/blender, and a pump-action flask. I live in France and everything has arrived from the UK within three days.

It depends on how you'd need to use it, eg:

    - baking every day for a large family, you tried a mixer and you know you'd use it regularly: invest in quality (e.g. kenwood)

    - baking often for 3+ people and/or never tried a mixer: I'd buy a cheap basic mixers with good reviews, and if it works well and you use it often you can upgrade

    - baking once a week and/or for 1-2 people: get a good hand mixer instead

Kenwood Chef, without a doubt. I use mine nearly every day.

If you have enough squirreled away for a Premier it's well worth it, they have a metal body and a larger motor than the Classic. Currys have the Premiere on offer for £199 atm.

Another vote for the Kenwood Chef.
I used a KM220 for years of serious baking (including catering a couple of weddings). My Lady bought me a 510 as a Christmas present a couple of years back which hasn't quite had the same sort of intensive use but has done everything asked of it.
I'd suggest looking on Ebay for a good condition 200 series and spending some of the money saved on accessories that you will use.
(My best recommendation for accessories is spare bowls, I'm fortunate to have 3)

Depending on how often you use it, we have one of these
Kenwood HM680 Chefette Hand Mixer with Stand available at most places,

You get the best of both worlds since it can be detached and used as a hand mixer.
