    I think self help books connected with health issues can be good (I read Robert Winston's "Getting Pregnant", and was expecting baby no 2 within weeks :D) but I'm not so sure how helpful the ones on relationships and emotions are: They do seem to encourage a lot of over-thinking and introspection which often the people who buy them do in bucket-loads anyway.
